Cnn International London

Does anyone know why CNN News Anchor Fionnula Sweeney, traditionally the studio presenter of World News Europe (WNE), appears to be out in the field doing live location reports, whilst her place on WNE appears to be taken by Becky Anderson, who although an absolutely excellent presenter, is more recognised as a Business Presenter??? Has there been a formal change at CNN, or are they just trying out some stuff?

I have also heard rumours of a swap between Hala Gorani and Rosemary Church, with Hala Atlanta bound and Rosemary London bound? Can anyone confirm if this is true? It would be nice to see Hala getting some more exposure in Atlanta.

It also seems that Tumi Mukghabo is the new anchor on Your World Today, replacing the departed Daljit Dhaliwal, with Ralitsa Vassileva as being the fill-in as and when required.

If Hala is Atlanta headed, what bulletins or programme will she present? Perhaps Your World Today? I recall that she did do a one month spell on that programme from Atlanta a year or so ago.

Even if Rosemary is bound for London, CNN London Bureau is still short of a presenter or two.

Sky/CNN/ITN Newsreader Alison Bell Arrested

Becky and Fiounnula seem to be managing quite well without her over on CNNI actually. Alison, although not one of my favourites, was watchable, but thats about all I can say.

"BIG MOIRA"

This is an honest story. As an expat living outside the UK, I was on a visit back to London (although I am a native Scot) several years ago on business.

I watched the Six O'Clock News on a Friday evening, presented by Peter and Moira. Moira presented also on the Saturday. On both days, she had really really short cropped afro style hair.

She then turned up on Sunday on BBC1 presenting the daily bulletins - and she had longer hair. (Not quite like the photo above, but longer than it was the night before). How could that be????!!!!???

No matter what, she is still the Queen of TV News in my opinion and she should be back on mainline television news, regardless of hairstyle.

BBC Ten O'Clock News

I am not sure what Mrs. Witchell's current job title and remit is. As I only really am able to watch BBC World, we see even less of Nicholas Witchell than those of you in the UK.

Would be nice to see Michael Buerk back in the chair though. He is a fine broadcast journalist. So, too, is Peter Sissons in my opinion. Both Peter and Michael are far more credible and palatable than Huw and Fiona.

But I would still love to see Moira accompanying one of the senior guys (Philip preferably) as co-presenter.

Has John Humphrys entirely given up presenting BBC TV News? I do recall that even after his move to Today, he did appear on several occasions on the Six, alongside Jill, Jennie and Andrew.

Does anyone remember the odd situation that occurred for two weeks in the late eighties when the BBC News line up was as follows:-

One O'Clock News - Nicholas Witchell
Six O'Clock News - Nicholas Witchell and Michael Buerk (Nick led it.)
Nine O'Clock News - Michael Buerk and Nicholas Witchell (Mike led it).

These two guys handled the entire BBC1 news output between them for two working weeks. Moira only did the weekends. It seemed that everyone else in the BBC News Team (Julia, Sue, Philip, Andrew, Jill, Jeremy, Debbie, Frances, John and Martyn at the time) were all away on hols at the same time. It was a Witchell-Buerk Fest for two whole weeks. Even then, I wondered why it happened. Surely they could have let Moira co-present the Six and Nine back then???? (This all happened actually before Moira eventually DID become the co-presenter on the Six and Nine).

Anyway, one can only wonder..............

Sky News' Juliet Foster

Back to Juliet, anyone???????? Is she or isn't she a biz presenter??

BBC Ten O'Clock News

Hear Hear ref Moira! She should be on one of the main bulletins, even if it is only weekend news again. On weekend news, there is rarely any interviewing to be done, unless its with a correspondent in the field or with the sports presenter. Moira is more than capable of handling that, for Goodness Sake.

Huw - sorry. Just can't take him at all.

Sorry to hear that Phil is happy on the rolling news of N24. I feel that BBC Network news needs a credible (perhaps old face) presenter. What other suggestions does anyone have?

Radical - such as Witchell coming back, or Jeremy from Sky??????

"BIG MOIRA"

These are all excellent ideas. Let's start a petition and have Moira rightfully restored into a position that she deserves, where a much larger audience can see and hear her keeping us abreast of the day's global events, and not playing second fiddle to the Sofa Sector.

Can I ask something - why do you all refer to Moira as "BIG MOIRA", and in capital letters and colours? Serious question as a newcomer.

SKY News Studio

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Can't really say any more, although I heard a rumor that Sky are going back to Gold and Red colours instead of blue, when they launch from the new place next year.

"BIG MOIRA"

Being relatively new to this forum, I may be touching on an age-old subject. But, I've done several searches, and cannot find answers to my questions.

I no longer live in the UK, but remeber Moira vividly and still reckon her to be the most professional of broadcasters, because:

a) She has being doing it for years;
b) She has had a wide exposure on all of BBC News' network output;
c) She is known and recognised by all of the British Viewing Public;
d) She does her job. Reads the news. Goes home. Doesn't get involved in publicity seeking stunts and Hello! and OK! Style interviews and other tabloid tat that several other presenters (Dermots / Trevors / Natasha's / Sophies) of this world seem to get involved in. She doesn't present quiz shows, appear with Bruce Forsyth on Dancing Competitions, not does she allow herself the indignation of being savaged by the likes of Trinny and Susannah. She reads the news. Does it well. Short and sweet.

I know that Moira is not strictly from a journalistic background, and some feel that all she does is read the autocue, but why the heck to BBC News have Moira hidden away on a couple of days presenting two minute bulletins on the mediocre "Breakfast" and also on "Breakfast with Frost", whilst the rest of the BBC "Senior" news journalist presenters are lampooning and having a whale of a time dabbling in the world of celebrity??????

Why doesn't the BBC - which prides itself in being a serious global news broadcaster - have rules for this sort of thing.

I cannot feel that news delivery is serious if it is being done by someone who has just danced across the screen the night before dressed in sequins, or who has been in the jungle with Peter Andre (Jennie) or dressed from tip to toe by trinny and Susannah, or who gets involved in tabloidy investigations about builders and plumbers (Kate Sanderson and Fiona Bruce) and so on and on.

I wish they were more like Moira and I really wish Moira was given a "real" job in the network's output. I think more of us are likely to listen and believe a story being read to us by Moira behind a desk, than by Natasha fluttering her eyelashes on a sofa!

Sky News' Juliet Foster

Love Juliet's new glasses, by the way.

I have only just started to watch Sky News again after a few years. I frequently see Juliet as News Presenter, alongside a co-presenter, and remember her doing what seemed like several years of co-presenting alongside Bob Friend at weekends.

In the last couple of weeks, I have seen Juliet presenting the Business News for Sky from the London Stock Exchange. Is she just standing in for someone, or is she now a regular business presenter? Or is this her going back to her roots?

I would also like to know if other Sky News presenters (Jeremy's, Kay's, Vivien's and David's etc of this world) also occasionally present the biz news from the stock exchange. Is there a roster?

Bbc World Slip Of The Tongue???

As I live in the Middle East, I am a regular viewer of World. The only time I get to see N24 is when I am in the UK or overnight on World.

Today, Robert Hall was doing a live piece from Arnheim on the anniversary of the war time landings there. Lucy Hockings was the presenter back in the World studio, talking to him via plasma.

Robert then cut away to interview a veteran, and then handed back to the studio with the statement, "that's all form here. Back to you in the studio Felicity.".

Lucy looked bemused but carried on.

It got me thinking, that either:

1) Robert made a genuine mistake, and called Lucy Felicity by mistake,

OR

2) Does N24 have a presenter called Felicity, and were World and N24 taking the same feed live from Arnheim at the same time, and Robert made the mistake of naming the N24 presenter, forgetting (or maybe not knowing) that he was also simulcasting on World?

Could someone in the UK who was watching N24 around 08:00hrs this morning let me know? Thanks.

Just curious.

(Incidentally, don't know if anyone saw the double header World News from BBCW last night, presented by Ian Pannell and Mike Embley. Ian was in Washington - what did you think of him? Seemed a little nervous to me, and looked as though he wished he was the second presenter, rather than the lead. Comments?)
