Good Morning Britain

At the risk of turning into Sybil Fawlty:

The new credenza isn’t a credenza.

From what I’ve seen over on TV Live, I like this refreshed look. Kudos to ITV for making a decent effort to bring the studio fixtures up to a safe standard for the permanent haul ahead.

Of course, it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but that’s fine. No revamp or refresh will ever suit everyone.

In classic TVF style, some members who complained about the vastness of the new desk (when previewed) are also the same members who (many pages back) complained about the artificial blended image making Piers and Susanna appear to sit very close to each other!

There’s just no pleasing some folk.

I say, well done ITV.

In edit: agree 100% with Mark’s post immediately above. 👍

On the flipside, let's hope people don't go OTT with the hugging when the day comes that 2m is no longer required.

We may be out of lockdown by then but we’ll still be British!

Wish this Credenza the best of luck for the future. Didn't the last one go on to head up the MET? Wink

No. That was a different Dick.

Revivals

First Sex and the City. Now Frasier. I was never much a fan of the latter, but did enjoy the former.

As we possibly learned from Will & Grace, revivals don’t always work perfectly well and are sometimes best left in the past.

I also hear some mutterings of a Rab C. Nesbitt revival. Although, given the recent developments on the writer front, not sure how that would work. Plus Tony Roper is nudging 80.

BOAF has possibly seen its last days, in view of very recent disclosures.

The question: can you name any revived show that was as big a hit or a bigger hit than it’s original outing?

I can only think of AbFab being even more popular in later life after being rested for years. And possibly Still Game.

When the slight graphics refresh finally comes, what show are they most likely to debut on?

I’d imagine Sunrise (or whatever the show is called by then). IIRC, Sky News “refreshes” were always rolled out with the first programme of the day.

In actual fact, it could well be The Early Rundown if it’s still around.

A sense of calm in the cockpit, a pilot remembering everything learnt during those hours of training in the simulator when they switch off one engine, and you can get modern civil aviation airplanes back on the ground for the airport fire services to spray the white foam around on the infield, and everyone to have a slide down the emergency shutes.

Looks worrying from the pictures, but at least the engine didn't fall off leading to a dangerous imbalance of weight distrubution leading to potential catestrophic sudden roll of the aircraft, and from there - the only way is quickly down - and a far different tone to the television coverage.

In certain scenarios, namely an uncontained engine failure as seen here, the engines are actually designed to detach should it begin to vibrate or disintegrate to an extent where it’s better for it to go.

Really!? How on earth would that work in practice, and how would your deal with the sudden severe imbalance it would create? (putting aside the issue that dropping 20 tonnes of engine from the sky isn't a terribly good idea)

The aircraft would lurch violently to one side, alerting the pilots of a missing engine (until recently, the physical detachment of an engine was not alerted by any alarm in the cockpit. The aerodynamic behaviour of the aircraft would be the pilots’ first indication of a problem).

They would control the aircraft using the flight control surfaces with heavier rudder inputs to compensate for the single remaining engine on one side, which would - logically - attempt to make the aircraft turn in the air. Hard rudder in the opposite direction will bring the aircraft back on course.

Well, you did ask.............

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is in hospital

This thread: peak TVF. It’s like an episode of Two Doors Down. Award winning. The speculation, drama and scope of story/thread-creep is bordering on pure comedy, despite the rather serious thread topic.

From the sublime to the ridiculous. We should all win a BAFTA for this coverage. In fact, this is the only place currently covering the DoE story! It has slipped out of view on all other news websites.

I hope I’m not tempting fate......

And - again - that is precisely why Kay isn’t on-air these days. She’s given the Ministers a bullseye target for such deflection.

Did anyone catch the flippant comment from the Health Secretary on Sophy Ridge this morning? When asked about relaxing restrictions, his answer... "well I know that everyone at Sky News is keen to be able to get back to having parties..."

Precisely proving the point that the position of some inquisitors would be untenable under the current circumstances. Giving Hancock and Co an easy exit each and every time.

Rather incredible footage. And, for once, totally acceptable to have a round of applause upon landing.
