ITV's current presentation

I think the ending of the Get Britain Talking thing might be a co-incidence,. Firstly if they were pulled because of Piers' comments then it was done bloody quick as they didn't appear during Lorraine and possibly not GMB either.

Secondly, the slogan referenced 'stay at home', maybe they were meant to end on Monday with the first phase of restrictions?

ITV News

I suspect the reason is more that the copy that ITV showed is sitting on a server at Red Bee. ITN will have recorded the original American showing on Tuesday morning so that will be sitting on their system ready to be clipped up for their programmes

Why are they using the previous style break bumpers during this? (Watching in the UTV Region).

I have a feeling it's to do with the Britain Get Talking campaign.

Mind was having a chat with them this evening.

Maybe they've decided to leave the bumpers out until a decision has been reached. Or maybe Mind has pulled out.

Here's Mind's statement this evening

Unsurprisingly, as has happened multiple times in the past, both the ITV Hub and STV Player seem to be having problems with people tuning in tonight.

Its times like this you realise many young people don’t know how to watch actual live TV

You don’t have to register to just press button 3 on your remote!

Reminds me of those ads you see for devices that you plug into the back of your TV and allows you to get lots and lots of TV channels for free.

It's an aerial

Funny that Brits actually watch the ads. After years of this in US and Canada you get used to ignoring them and time your ad breaks. Put the kids down, make a cuppa, check your email. Or putting in another load of laundry or running to the kitchen. Who's paying 100% attention to ads? Everyone I know simply ignores them. So there's that. Thats why remote controls have mute buttons and mobile phone are on the net that allow surfing to fill the ad break time. LOL. Such a old discussion that always surfaces.

With one exception - I was in the US for a Superbowl a few years ago and it's the only time I've ever been in a bar with sport on the TV and people waited for the ad breaks to be over then went to the loo!

TV Breakdown Appreciation Thread

I totally forget about this one until now so here a breakdown leading into an episode of the BBC News programme HARDtalk:

What's that glitchy square for during 0:28? The (presumably) count down clock doesn't look too healthy either

The square went across the screen between every second in the clock.

The clock looks a bit iffy as it's being fast forwarded, presumably the gallery are frantically trying to cue it up to the correct start point. Looks like that's a false start on the recording that wasn't edited off

Does anyone know if they aired it with ADs in the US or not?

Yes they did. Why wouldn't they?

Oprah said at the beginning of it that she'd been working with them on something else, so I suspect that it was something she negotiated and came up with them.

(I did manage to see it last night, not that I particular care about it, just nice to see a big TV event)

Good Morning Britain

I do enjoy Piers but this morning he's been on another level, and not one I like.

It's such a shame as he's been great when he's been channeling his talents for something worthwhile this last year. Then he ruins it with this sort of thing.

I overheard/caught some of this mornings programme and it was just a mess and totally unprofessional

One wonders how many of these questions are Oprah’s own, and how many are planted?

What do you mean planted? I wouldn't have thought they're all her own questions, there'll be several people writing and helping her prepare. Of course a lot of the follow up questions will be hers, they can't all be prepared for.

Her interviewing seems to have gone down well, one example:

The UK broadcasters will have arranged with one of their US bureaus to feed CBS (just normally received as anyone would via terrestrial / cable) down one of their existing fibre paths, allowing them to record it for editing and to allow their staff to view the interview as it went out / ahead of the ITV showing.

The BBC will have been able to get a feed of the programme as their US news partner is CBS. The BBC News website live-blogged the interview as it went out

Good Morning Britain

I don't know about that, but he's going on and on and on and on. Can't take that much harranging this time in the morning

Presumably Dr Hilary is having a well deserved lie in this morning, hopefully someone rung him last night to say don't bother coming in!?

They may need him if Piers' blood pressure gets any higher.

Seriously why does he care so much, what is it about this story and Meghan in particular that makes him so passionate (that's an understatement!) about it?
