BBC News Channel & World News to merge?

If the claim in this Forbes article that the head of news is more interested in mobile instead of TV and others at the top more interested in online is true, it feels less likely the merger proposal will be rejected.

Al Jazeera English from The Shard

I wonder if there was a technical problem in London because the Newshour at 21:00 GMT was from Doha instead of London and the 22:00 GMT bulletin was from Doha instead of London again and that was only five minutes long. It was then followed by Counting the Cost and then Witness, which was scheduled unlike CTC.

BBC News Channel & World News to merge?

Page 40 from the White Paper ( https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/522824/DCMS_A-BBC-for-the-future_linked__1_.pdf )
Quote:
BBC World News is the prime means by which the BBC distributes its television news and current affairs programmes to international audiences. But it does not have the same reputation for quality as the World Service – which is renowned for its radio output. This is in part a question of funding: BBC Global News, the commercial subsidiary that operates the service, had revenues in 2014/15 of just £94 million, less than 10 per cent of the revenues of BBC Worldwide, and a staff of just 120. The BBC must ensure that all its prominent international services have a reputation for delivering high quality, distinctive output. The new unitary board should therefore consider what reforms are needed to improve the quality of BBC World News

And combining the two will accomplish that? I and many here doubt it.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

Radio and TV remain dominant for the BBC outside of the UK, each around twice the audience size of online. The article suggests the growth for BBC World News was relatively small.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

France 24 News bulletins are a minimum of 10 minutes, every half hour.

Except for the bottom of the hour during 'The Debate' and its repeat, which are only 2 minutes. Regardless, I shouldn't have included them because there is a 10 minute bulletin before the start of 'The Debate'. For some reason I confused the top and bottom of the hour bulletins during 'The Debate'. Apologies.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

Does anyone else have issues on the BBC World News schedule page? I tried two or three of the different regions and all are coming up blank.

'There's no schedule for today' for the ones I tried.
3 minutes is unusually short for a weekday.

It isn't too short when compared to Al Jazeera's 4 or 5-minute top of the hour summaries during some hours to accommodate their longer documentaries. Or those on France 24 during some hours on weekdays. I don't imagine those on CNN International being any longer. It is unfortunate they've decided to do this.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

There is no longer a 30-minute bulletin at 9 am UK time/0800 GMT on weekdays. That hour consists only of a summary, a taped show from the weekend (the Travel Show, Click, etc.) and then HardTalk. There is no weather or a headlines summary at :30 past.

BBC World News from New Broadcasting House

The ticker hasn't so far (at least I'm aware of) displayed headlines along the lines of 'Who were the attackers?' or 'Why did it happen?'. But the ticker didn't seem to put news first when 'Japan zebra dies in golf course lake' was the second headline.

International News Presentation: Past and Present

To be fair, it's a small station aimed at part of province with a small population and a province that has not done well economically since it became part of Canada and has been reliant on federal financial aid for most if not all of its history as a Canadian province. It's the only private TV station on 'the Rock' (as locals call the island portion of the province) so it managed to survive without any real competition except from the CBC.

BBC News Channel - changes announced

I haven't seen those newsroom interviews on World for quite a while now, possibly a year unless if they've been doing them on GMT and the standard bulletins preceding GMT. The only two shows that do/did these that I'm aware of were Impact and Global. I've seen other channels use such an approach but it didn't last long for them.
