BBC Scotland's Scheduling

Reboot posted:
Gavin Scott posted:
The scheduling of programmes in Scotland isn't really an issue, unless you are reading English listings or expecting to see something based on a TVF discussion. Programme times are well signposted on BBC Scotland, and gone are the days when you heard "except for viewers in Scotland" on a promo or V/O.

BBC2 Scotland put a Network trail out just on Friday there advertising a program that didn't exist @6pm (since the Thursday MasterChef had been bumped there - this itself was a break, since they've usually just played that on Friday when the rest of the UK get the quarter-final and dumped the f itself on Saturday morning).

Depending on the time, this could have been due to the whole of BBC Glasgow being evacuated due to a fire alarm for a time on friday, forcing local presentation off-air.

BBC News - General

Jakarta posted:
If I'm not mistaken but when strikes at such companies as BA are called on and off there is coverage of such events, why not at the BBC? It's been a long running dispute that connects with issues involving job losses, the reduced licence fee, impact of the government on public broadcasting... It's not exactly a minor story.

It was mentioned when it was cancelled. Strikes at BA are much more inconvenient for the public than when us BBC folk walk out. BA strikes cause disruption to customers ruining travel plans. The BBC strike plans received coverage when they were announced, but I don't think the cancellation deserved much more than a short read / oov, which is what we gave it.

Since monday's strike has been called off I've not seen much coverage of it from BBC News, have they not been reporting it? Normally the BBC is quite good when it comes to covering stories about itself such as the Hutton Inquiry or the reduced licence fee.

It's off, so what is there to report? A three minute package on how people will be working as usual? Laughing

Cumbria derailment coverage

Border have just said "welcome to this specially extended edition of Border News". How does that work? Everyone's got 15mins at the moment... Confused

Border TV never normally use the full fifteen minutes for news and usually add filler programmes and features to use up the slot time.

Cumbria derailment coverage

ITV truck would have been from Border tv in Carlisle. BBC News truck is stuck a short distance from the site (a lot of emergency vehicles) so are having to go and shoot with a radio camera (which is too far away from the van) and feed back.

what there to move ? square box kept to together with glue

A thousand staff members, two national radio stations, two television networks, all of which will be using new technology and can't have interruptions to programming. It's probably the largest move in recent BBC's history (bigger than the Mailbox move), so it won't happen in a couple of weeks.

They just find a different way of putting it across so that the unions can't fight it.

Umm that's the whole point of this strike... to get them to back down from making compulsory redundancies when several other people have been turned down for voluntary redundancy.

The move is taking place between April and July (there's a lot to move!). I'd suggest you keep your eyes peeled at the beginning of July Wink
