We do love Steve Dixon. And I agree with the Emma comment, she was good today. Looked better too for some reason.

Just wondering, the Sky News election studio, that was in the new building right? Is that going to be used for anything or was it "purpose built" so to speak?

I heard somewhere it was a Sky Sports studio, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, I would have expected to see some promos by now.

Martin, I wondered why Joan Rivers was in the new set as well as the old one too, seemed a bit weired.

Well, it all looks very interesting, studio looks great, weather graphics look superb. Good to see John Desborough is returning to present Sportsline, and Hazel is back for the weather. Can't wait to see it all, though I'll be at work all day so won't the 9-5 shows.

BBC News 24

And incidentally, News 24 should be strong enough in their own merit not to require a pathetic presenter reshuffle every time a competitor relaunches. If they do make any alterations to their output post Sky News relaunch, then surely they will be agreeing that their current arrangement is inadequate.

BBC News 24

Jane Hill is satisfactorally acceptable, but the Sky Report with Julie Etchingham is gearing up to make for interesting viewing.

Agreed, that would be refreshing, but I have grown quite fond of Sky News in a non emotional way. Time will tell what effect, if any, Al Jazeera's western news channel will have on the Big 3.

ITV belongs in hell, it is absolute swill.

Sky has influenced BBC News 24 in some ways, for example, stand up presenting for no relavant reason. Same applies to ITV News, Channel 4 News also stand up a fair bit.

Surely Channel 5 News influenced Sky News in the stand up in the newsroom thang and surely City News in Canada influenced Channel 5 News... it's all relative - nothing is ever a completely original idea these days just a reinterpretation...

Perhaps, but the real question is who influenced City News in Canada?

I think you'll find Channel 5 News might have something to say about that.

I don't see how they can, Sky News now produce it and have sistimatically replaced Five News presenters with their own, for the most part. And of course most of the news stories covered are almost identical to those broadcast on Sky News.

Who does Peter Horrocks think he is kidding? BBC News 24 distinctive? Where exactly? It does rolling news just like Sky News -- but is perennially late breaking stories, in typical BBC style ignores some stories (PC gone mad) and has a presenter line-up mostly of nobodies that change every day.

Well done Nick Pollard - the BBC doesn't believe their is anyway of ding anything better than how it doe sit. This fallacy was derided many years ago when Sky Sports came along and devastated BBC Sport. I hope Sky News can do the same to the BBC in news.

Well just to toss the coin (and nothing else ) BBC News 24 has done a great lot to make it distintive.

Your instantly aware your watching N24 (for better or worse) through the pres, namly the giant aston and TOG.

I really can't disagree with you more about BBC News. I personally speaking find it fast and reliable and above all impartial, something which I find hard to beleive on the Murdock Network.

Hell, theres always ITV...

LOL.

I think a lot of channels have taken "inspiration" from Sky, that was the buzzword at the last check.
I'm interested in how the news channels now seem to be almost wary of the SN relaunch, if thats the right way of putting it.
I think as long as SN has this knock on effect and is so widly watched then people will also look to SN to see how they operate, which in some ways is rather a pity.

True, they do seem to watch, see what they like and use it in a less effective way. You only need look at ITV's artificial video wall and BBC News 24 significantly smaller screens (I think the TV in my room is bigger and has better picture quality, joking of course)...Oh dear, I think I'm sounding a bit bitter now...

I don't know if it's been mentioned that the 7:00 Sky News Ireland is moving to 6:30. It makes sense to replace Sportsline rather than half of The Sky Report.

If that's true...it may make sense from UK Sky bosses point of view, but given that it involves moving Sky News Ireland from having no Irish based competition to being up against both RTÉ News: Six One and TV3 News at 6:30, it does not make a lot of sense at all from an Irish point of view. It will be viewed here as commercial suicide / and/or Sky News Ireland giving up on its 7pm bulitten.

Surely there must be a better way?.

Yes, exactly that, giving up on the 7pm bulletin and opting for an early afternnoon slot. During Sky News Today pm maybe.
