New Meridian, BBC South & South East Thread

Apologies for the size, but this is 75% of the original size. I managed to capture a Martyn Davies blooper from ITV Local (South East weather) last Thursday (20th), where he fluffed up and reset to retake. I hope it's of interest to some, especially the VT clock too!

Which town/city do you think a SouthEast backdrop could be? Maidstone? Brighton? Canterbury? It would be good to have 4 or 5 like Anglia Tonight (West) and alternate them.

If a region doesn't really have one town/city that is considered to be "the" city of the region, then alternating views is a far more preferable option than the generic green backdrop (like Calendar, MeridianSE, CNsouth) IMHO.

What is the green background?

This one. It's still used by Meridian South East and in the pan-regional Meridian bulletins during GMTV:

New Meridian, BBC South & South East Thread

I noticed the old thread had long gone down into the archives, so I hope nobody minds but I thought I'd create a new one.

BBC South weathergirl Alina Jenkins presented her last ever forecast. Since she's left we've had forecasts done by the national team from London. Hopefully BBC South'll get their own new forecaster soon. Smile

Has anyone seen in the Meridian South and West studios? Unlike in the South East they now have backgrounds. Meridian West of Reading (I think), and Meridian South of Portsmouth. Meridian South East still has the animated green background. I must say it looks much better now. Smile

The Weather Forecast Thread

I think it's just YTV. I haven't seen any of the other regions show it until the regular forecasts.

Happy Birthday to YTV's Jon Mitchell. He seemed to be in his element on the stream railway on tonight's Calendar didn't he?

I know one thing for sure, my nephew would've been jealous if he saw his Thomas The Tank Engine cake! lol

ITV Regional News Graphics Update

I think the only ITV regions with non-animating astons are Border and Westcountry. ITV West began broadcasting with animating astons since Monday.

Meridian Weather is SeaFrance, not P&O - or has it changed recently?

It changed very recently. So it's now been sponsored by at least three ferry operators over the years, Stenaline, SeaFrance and now P&O - P&O sponsored the Airwatch back in about 1999 too.

It's also been sponsored by two insurance companies; Legal & General and Sunlife and by Beaulia National Motor Museum on two seperate occassions (actually I may have made that up).

Not sure why I'm such an authority on Meridian Weather Scratch Head

P&O became Meridian's weather sponsors from last week. We had a month or two minus a sponsor. I was hoping for BMIBaby.com personally. My little nephew loves that baby! Laughing

I think I got confused over London because I noticed Topps Tiles as the weather sponsor this past Friday night, which I would've thought'd be the weekend's sponsor. Then yesterday I noticed the weather was sponsored by 118 118. Am I going crazy? Confused

We've got it here in Yorkshire as well? What's the sponsor in your region?

I can't remember the name, but the company has something to do with Conservatories, I haven't caught the sponsorship for London's as they seem to have the Weather a few seconds before Granada, as London has it integrated with London Today/Tonight.

I believe all the ITV plc regions (at least) have brought back the UV Sun Care report. They are all sponsored by Appeal, which as mentioned correctly above are a conservatory company. Smile

ITV Regional Weather.

As far as I'm aware, all the ITV regions (except London, STV & UTV) all have a sting with a small jingle so to speak. Apologies for going slightly off topic but as far as I'm aware these are the current ITV regional weather sponsors:

Anglia: Norwich & Peterborough Building Society
Border: BMIBaby.com
Central: BMIBaby.com
Channel: BMIBaby.com
Granada: BMIBaby.com
ITV London: Topps Tiles (I think they're all week now Confused )
ITV Wales: BMIBaby.com
ITV West: FlyBE.com
Meridian: P&O
STV: (Don't know)
Tyne Tees: BMIBaby.com
UTV: Progressive Building Society
Westcountry: FlyBE.com
YTV: Yorkshire Building Society
