BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Does anyone else think that they different rotas they've been using may have something to do with a reshuffle.

Annita McVeigh seems to be doing 11am-2pm a lot recently and on Fridays doing that or 2pm-5pm. Sophie Long and Joanna Gosling have also had a few random swaps. Maybe they're planning to move Joanna to 2pm and make 7pm single-headed? At least it would make things more consistent because they barely get two days in a row the same two presenters at the moment.

Well there we are pretty sure there is going to be some sort of reshuffle - with the expectation that evenings will go single headed. So yes they are likely playing with different combinations. They may also look at a wider overhall of shifts to save money, such as one morning and one afternoon - cutting out the middle. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of relief presenters end up getting thrown out though. If a new more consistent rota is brought in then some would have to go.

BBC Breakfast

No one seen the Breakfast advert, I think it aired this afternoon before Doctors or after.

Yes, it's linked to the BBC's adverts for political coverage across the news programmes. Louise was the VO for it.There was one for News at Six as well.

Why are they doing them?
Surely they don't need to trail news programmes

They occasionally do random news trailers just to promote the output. It is nothing more than to keep the profile of news quite high. Agreed that it is completely pointless.

BBC News: Donna Summer tribute report

I think the reports didn't really start coming in until well after 5pm, which wouldn't have left the Six much time to get it pulled together.

It was first being reported around 4:40 ish.

The confirmation did not come through until around 5.15. Eddie Mair brought it as breaking news on radio 4. The news channel did not report it until a few minutes later when they added a breaking news strap along the bottom of the screen. They were doing the Athens hand over at the time.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Much as we all know the pair would be great on breakfast I can't see either of them going to Salford regularly, especially for a weekend edition. Does anyone actually think Sunday breakfast is a more senior role than a regular weekday main slot on the news channel?

BBC daytime revamp

So whenevery analogue is closed down there be no point for late night/early morning bbc news on bbc one and bbc two infact no newsif childrens programmes are to vanish of the main bbc channels because it has its own cbbc channel why not news they have their own channel leaving bbc one and two for entertainment and factual programming and sport.

That is definitely an argument which will be put to the BBC over the coming years. It won't happen in the near future, due to commitments to provide news to a wide variety of audiences - but this certainly gives weight to the argument. During Wimbeldon when the news can sometimes be moved to BBC 2 due to a game over running could be the first time we see change. They may just announce the bulletin is on the News channel, instead of messing up the two schedule. But these instances are only going to be very rare.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

If they are going to make the evenings single headed Jon Sopel would be far better than Ben Brown at presenting them. The banter between him and Steve Evans just now has been very amusing. Sophie Long, trying to join in at the end just sounded like a fish out of water.

I completely agree! They should use the presenters on the same shift as often as possible in order to build up maximum familiarity with viewers. In other words, Ben Brown in particular should present the evening shift more far more days than he does not.

Sopel never does evenings nowadays? Any reason why? Are they expecting any big announcement from Berlin?

Sopel does do evenings these days - not on a regular basis, every few weeks or so.

I don't think I've seen him do them for a long time. It's usually Matthew who swaps with Ben for a week every now and then.

I thought part of the idea was to have a unified sport branding - how does the orange fit in with that. Also, it is strange seeing the desk at that angle with half the lit up panel not showing. I think some of the regions have desks that do that, but personally I think it just looks odd.

BBC World News - to 14th January 2013

Who is the main sports presenter doing the London overnight shift now? It would be really helpful if I could find out who is the main presenter and who is the regular reliefs. (I am asking so I can correct the wiki page). Thanks. Smile
