1992 General Election

Might the one minute of 'loss of programme' blackness have been them changing the tape?

On Sky Plus, the coverage is split into three chunks, surely they couldn't have recorded the whole thing onto one 'tape'? They didn't have hard disks in 1992 did they?

Confused:

The Augusta National are very restrictive with the amount of hours broadcast on television - only the last 3 hours of play in the first two rounds, then the last 3 1/2 hours in the third round, and the last 4 1/2 hours in the final round - are allowed to be broadcast.

Stupid bloody Americans! Why do they still take this stance?

Well, as women still can't be members, and Blacks and other non-whites are still hardly welcome, it's hardly any surprise that the broadcasting is also a victim of continuing red-neckery. Louix Theroux should pay these people a visit.

Northern Ireland news thread

Does UTV have ANY sport left, apart from the excerpts on the news and Sport on Sunday?

Oh, I forgot - they showed an hour-and-a-half of the veterans' tennis tournament a few weeks ago.

If it keeps on, they'll be on to Frank Carson to resurrect his charity golf tournament.

Really, their sports output is pathetically bad.

Falklands coverage on BBC Parliament

A full re-run of Labour's "Victory" Rally in Sheffield from the night before the 1992 General Election would also be good to see, as it would set the exit poll and unfolding events of the night in context.

As Neil Kinnock would say: "We're ALRIGHT!!!".

Linkeker said something along the lines of "it's great to get back to the Premiership action after some SUPERB England displays of late - the glorious draw against Macedonia, a grand display at Croatia - and more recently an equisite draw in Israel, and then a well deserved win against Andorra".

It does sound quite childish.

I have to say I quite enjoyed the international break - but then this is an Ulsterman talking.

Very Happy

Interesting, isn't it, that 'Football Focus' was separated from 'Grandstand', with FF getting its own full opening titles and end credits, yet now that 'Grandstand' has been scrapped, FF loses its end credits and we have a handover to the next sport which would have been just the way it was done in the old 'Grandstand' format when FF was part of the programme.

Goodness, we even have an anchor-person, just with no platform for him or here.

It really is nonsense, but we're used to the BBC not admitting its mistakes, so add this howler to the list.

What did Lineker say on MotD? I had it on, but was talking until the actual football came on.

The 100 Greatest Stand Ups

Juse been watching this ... the other difficulty, apart from 4 hours being a lot in one sitting, is that, with the 8pm start, the first hour was riddled with bleeps, and when the material is so reliant on swearing, the message got rather lost in the translation.

The solution? Extend it to 5 or 6 hours over two nights, or cut out more of the rent-a-quotes and do it in just over 3. EIther way, make it a 9pm start time.
