BBC One Christmas Ident

Don't forget that Northern Ireland also came-up with special Titanic-themed idents earlier this year, on both One and Two, which also involved 'reclycling' music from past idents, and that these have continued to run on occssion.

Clearly I do not know if such things have to be "run past Network", but I'd hope the folks in Belfast have a reasonable degree of latitude that is merited by their level of effort and enthusiastic approach!

BBC One Christmas Ident

I quite liked the BBC Northern Ireland advent calendar. That was a nice touch.

I agree; a very nice idea there.

Indeed it is .... if it was me (and they could), I think I'd be playing this up and keeping that other rubbish to a minimum.

Hearing that dross on a regular basis upto 1 January would have me demented.

BBC One Christmas Ident

WORST. BBC1. CHRISTMAS. LOGO. AND. OVERALL. IDEA. EVER.

(As for 'The One Show' involvement and the self-indulgence of the 'switch-on' .... garbage.)

'The View' just doesn't work, does it?

OK, so 'Hearts & Minds' had become a bit tired, dull and not terribly worthy, but it was also a bit of an old reliable, if only for Noel Thompson's combative interviewing, and the 'If You Ask Me?' commentaries, with the excellent Ian Knox cartoons.

It did run for 16 years .... if its successor manages 16 months, it will be doing well.

Channel 4 30th Birthday

"feelinglistless" on the Comments section of that Guardian article says it for me.

Channel Four used to be and feel so distinctive, and it was the last real new channel event (as pretty much everyone went from just three to four channels).

If anything, its logo apart, I'd say it now has the least distinctive feel of the five "terrestrial" channels, which is sad.

Channel 4 News

When he left Channel 4 in June 1983, he was 27. He is 56 or 57.

Channel 4 News

It was relaunched from the first Monday in February 1983, with the new music, Peter Sissons behind a desk with somewhat better (and non beige) graphics, and 'Channel Four Comment' now as a separate programme at 7.50, before the weather.

By the way, Paul Coia (the first announcer, with his first script) appeared briefly on tonight's programme. He must be 56/57 now, but doesn't look 30 years older (just a bit wider, lol).

Ulster Region DSO

Two things I noticed last night, BBC NI dropped the 22:32 national weather bulletin, but there seemed no need to, they filled the gap waiting for the common junction with UTV with trailers.

NI is the only nation or region that doesn't take the national weather after the Ten (aside from situations when the local news is specially extended by a couple of minutes, like Wales did after the hit-and-runs the other day), you might notice Northern Ireland doesn't usually get a mention in the forecast.

I generally watch the proper UK-wide weather forecast (via BBC One England on Cable) and have never noticed Northern Ireland not being mentioned on either the 10.35 forecast, or on the weekend ones where the NI team also annoyingly deny local viewers the UK-wide weather forecast.

I like the local forecasts and forecasters, but not the detriment of the usually (somewhat) more technically-minded UK-wide forecasts.

UTV is Part of U

I have to say I find stuff like "UTV - Part of U (or You)" a load of guff.

Mr Wilson's blog about it was corporate pants at its best-worst.
