Well it's not that hard if you have ENPS access, anyone can look at the national news running orders and open approved scripts. It can be quite amusing reading what Huw is about to read.
Yes I found this quite good as well!
Even better i can annoy people and say this should be on next and that... - now why did I not bets on the news schedules. I could have got some money !
Oh how much is it? I'l see if i've got any funds left?
Did you pay by VISA or cash?
Came out of the blue this evening..... wasn't expecting anything like this.....
............
So on to another topic.. Looks like Calendar is getting a brand spanking new music, graphics and set ... well set's apparently coming in later according to the ITV News thread... on here..
Just a shame it's not going to help them in the ratings with BBC.... well not unless they start doing proper journalism and not *Sloppy* journalism....
What do you say to that YTV SOPHIE? Does anyone share these views with me?
And a further note to KATHERINE - did you try adding my MSN addy? - a while ago.. I remember blocking somebody straight off.... Thought it might have been you!
Indeed - ratings aren't likely to improve unless their editorial policy is improved, in both some regional programmes, and the national news. Although this apparent gimmick that might be introduced where the national news would be on at 6.00, Calendar and other regional programmes begin at something like 6.10, 6.15 or 6.20, and then the remainder of the hour is the rest of the national news, could have an impact, this is unlikely due to ITV1's very weak programming in the lead-in 5-6pm hour (it gets beaten by BBC One, BBC Two and Channel 4, and I think even sometimes five).
I reckon you're probably one of those snotty media students invading the site again. You claim that 'Calendar's' editorial policy is weak. On what basis do you claim this? As far as I can see, it meets all the ITC's guidelines regarding content and YTV hasn't had a telling off for some ten years, and that was regarding co-production with Central Television. As ususal, probably somebody wanting a dodgy media graduate job with the BBC.
I will however agree that ITV1 has a poor line up upto 1800 hrs. I reckon it can't be long before that changes.
Sorry 'Huddy' please do tell me who you were refering to, myself or 'Intheknow'.
I know you were not talking about me were you.
So you ask what gives me the right to 'criticise' Calendar's editorial policy, well that would be the same right as you. I'm a viewer of TV News, and I cannot stand for what is a weak editorial policy, or what I like to call 'sloppy journalism'.
The latest relaunch did'nt dent it's counterpart 'Look North' and it should be argued that the 'live from somwhere everynight' is not always lead with a strong 'story'. These are meerly stories from the "it's abysmal, we've tried our hardest we cannot find a story" 'brigade'.
Since the demise of Home and Away it has never had a strong line up to the 1800 slot and it has never got any better in the mean time.
Oh by the way did I forget to mention the reason I don't like sloppy journalism, is that it gives a bad name to all the other journalists - and to those who are student journalists who are preparing to enter the industry.
Oh how much is it? I'l see if i've got any funds left?

Like some of you, i've never really noticed the Globe even focussing into a country... i'l have to take a magnifying glass to it next time.

Oh has anyone thought that the BBC could do with a better news report titles/introdouction graphics.
I really think the current ones and the previous ones are just lame - now they've gone all brightly red coloured sets and gone flying the "bbc" everywhere on news 24 titles they should change it and make it livly (with the exception of the Royal / Senior Politician death announcment which should have course stay the same or somber).
They could do with a bit more HUMPH to it all.
Something like -
** BBC Programme -- is playing out on one -
** Then Screen goes to Black.. with the BBC ONE logo in the middle of the screen .
** then outcirlces a red and white style N24 TOPHGraphics with BREAKING NEWS circuling it and a voiceover saying " THIS IS A BBC NEWS REPORT LIVE FROM TELEVISION CENTRE in LONDON"
Then to Studio and camera.
I really think it would add a little drama and grabs peoples attention
Personally i'd love to see a varying degree of a mixture of titles.
Perhaps before the start of the news - I.E during normal day (not weekend/bank holls output) I think we should have a local "Opt - in for an introduction, it should be sort of like the countdown we see on N24 - but entirly local - with the regional words displayed i.e Yorkshire & North Midlands and the introduction as "This is BBC One at 5.59 PM"
Start of ten second countdown comes in (adds a little drama I think - and prepares everyone for it)
* then Boom national presenter announces main headline, then may be followed by first local headline in the regions , then national 2nd headline then local and national and so on for a minute ( well ok it probably wouldn't work)
* Then Get N24 type Titles in the white and red - but with maybe presenter faces and something like " AT 6 pm the News with Sophie and George.
Which I hardly call an XMAS lights winner or all of the news presentation team stuck out on OB, I do not remember hardly anything that hit me as 'local news' more soft core news that was suitable for the American local networks.
Is it possible our ITV networks are going more down this avenue?
Might I direct you to BBC1 at 18:30 (Emley Moor or Belmont) to see if that's any better for you?
How did I know you'd be the first person to reply to my qoute.
By the way I do watch BBC News, but I also watch a variety of other 'news programs'.
Was my opinion stated, it's quite useful to look at Calendar to see and learn the mistakes what they make and make sure I don't actually do it my self!

You know I must add to the debate of the 'calendar saga' I too watched the special on Monday. As a student journalist in training, I like to watch all the available news I can get.
But honestly what has it done to itself/ I know local news programmes should be 'local' but how much more local could you get than a 'regional news' program that was in a street in skipton with carol singers, singing it out - and the 'christmas lights' special. Talk about cheap, free electricity....
I really do not think this is anything but a pantomine program at best, ok some times it does 'provide' local news, but to what expense, dressing it's production up and having an amazing OB.
Regardless that it was Xmas, it's journalistic Integrity surly has to have been lost. I'm preerty sure that 'pulling out all the stops' is a good way of producing a good 'pan-regional news program' but not at the expense of it's credability and it's core news reports.
