The RTE News Thread

According to the Sunday Independent (Ireland) Brian Dobson is leaving the Six One and taking up a role on Morning Ireland.

The article says it's part of a revamp of the bulletin. I've a feeling that RTE News will be getting a revamp in September. The revamp will definitely include a shake-up of Morning Ireland. That is certain.
Anyway, Dobo hasn't been on Six One for a while now. He didn't anchor coverage of the election of Leo Varadkar, which was odd for him, given he's the face of RTE News. It'll be sad to see him go.

Sky Sports Revamp

From early DigiGuide listings, it looks as though Gillette Soccer Saturday will be broadcast on FOUR channels from this coming football season - Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports News and Sky 1. I am a football fan, but that's a bit much!

It's only on three channels in Ireland, because we get extra Premier League games on the Premier League channel.

TV3 is running extended coverage though I don't know if they continued News at 5:30 or broke into SOCS.

Incidentally the only reason I know they did at all is that RTE decided that right in the middle of Simon Covney's concession speech was a good time to go to commercials.

TV3 continued News at 5:30. I assume RTE weren't expecting the count to run over, as they extended their News Special by five minutes.

And I would guess TV3 in Ireland just ignore the election apart from their bulletins?

They'll tack on an extra Half hour or Hour onto Tonight with Vincent Browne but that will be all I would think.

There's no special VB scheduled at the moment, but there might be one, depending on how major the result is.
Anyway, there's now a News Special scheduled for tomorrow at 4:40 pm. There's no Prime Time scheduled at the moment.

RTE showed coverage of the resignation of Enda Kenny as leader of Fine Gael on the 17th from five o'clock to five forty. There was also a Prime Time Special after the Nine O'Clock News.
There's no News Special or Prime Time scheduled on Friday (when the leadership election ends), but I bet there will be one, as the leadership election will decide not just who's the next leader of Fine Gael, but our next Taoiseach.

UTV rebrand

Back to the branding has UTV been given the two halloween idents?

No we didn't get any special Halloween idents. We've still just got the same 6 or 7 that were launched on the first day. I wonder what happened to the new ones they were filming especially for UTV?!

Possibly they're going to be the idents if ITV decide to do a temporary rebrand before the move from Havelock House.

International News Presentation: Past and Present

This new resignation, and the still ongoing strike (15 days of strike now), place some doubts over whether i>Télé will broadcast the second debate of the Les Républicains party primaries or not.

This debate is scheduled on November 3rd and should normally be broadcast jointly by BFMTV and i>Télé.

I wonder if the owners will rebrand it as CNEWS as planned after the strike ends.

RTE2's Newsfeed is an odd bulletin in my view.

The anchor appears on screen for no more than about 15 seconds out of a 2.5 minute bulletin. Everything else is out of vision. Even the weather update at the end feels a little odd, with forecasts by province. Ulster, Connaught, Munster & Leinster.

I can't see why they even justify the use of CSO studio for that bulletin. You might as well do it like 3e's The Thread and have the whole bulletin anchored out of vision.

I agree with you.

UTV rebrand

Have there been any new, filmed in Northern Ireland, idents yet... as we were promised earlier in the year... or are they all recycled ones so far?

Not a single NI ident that I've seen. All just UTV-branded versions of network idents so far. And in fact, a number of idents have been shown twice already today.

Yes we've already had Autumn leaves, the skipping one, flamingos and the concert one all twice today so far.

Looks like ITV only made four idents for UTV then.

The RTE News Thread

There were a few techincal problems on Six One just now. There were a few sound problems earlier and just before the ad break, a Breaking News slide appeared, but it went away after a few seconds and also, there was no DOG going into the ad break after the Breaking News slide disappeared.
