Coronation Street

Why do they put so much Corrie on anyway? It's over-rated and has been for years.

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

2000 was the first one where it was all backing tracks.

I agree, it would be good to have the orchestra back. Each country had its own conductor too I think.

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

I don't see why we the license-payers should be funding such a national joke really. And SE is right, politics mean the contest is screwed against us.

I still maintain it's not a song contest.

That could have been the EQ then. Both compression and EQ can be used to enchance vocal.

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

TVE may have used additional compression used in the mix to force the sound to be more "commercial radio"... if you know what I mean.
This was probably the case - for the unitiated, compression's what makes some radio stations sound "louder" or enchance the sound to give them a "signature sound." The best example of compression in this country is that of Radio 1, although I must admit Radio 2 piled on the compression for the ESC tonight. The best example of audio compression on the TV is VH1 - listen to how it sounds "different" from the othe rmusic channels.

The 49th Eurovision Song Contest

Well I think it shows our European neighbours out to be the narrow-minded, shallow, superficial and pretentious people that they actually are.

Who gives a s**t about the Euro? The EU Constitution? Iraq?! It's got f**k all to do with politics, it's about the music !

I think it's very sad that the contest no longer has anything to do with the music. And I have to say that once again anyone here from Cyprus or Greece should hang their head in shame - you shouldn't have even voted in a music competition when the music was clearly the last thing on your mind.

My 12 points tonight go to Cyprus - but that's because Lisa Andreas (sp?) really did blow me away. A fantastic song which thoroughly deserved the first prize, but I imagine the poor girl was totally overlooked by her Grecian neighbours.

Still, not bad for the UK considering the Iraq Photos scandal going on right now - and a great performance from James Fox tonight. Although I can't help feeling that if we'd pulled our troops out this week we might have done a damn sight better...

The Final Episode of...

Hymagumba posted:
Well I'd say Crossroads did end with more than a whinper as its daft ending was mentioned on Liquid News and it plenty newspapers. Plus James Martin moaned about it so loudly that people in far off lands knew about his disapproval of Yvon Grace.
But do you think that had she been a bit more lassez-faire with what she was given upon her appointment, the show would be doing remarkably well now?

The Final Episode of...

Agreed that the end of Night & Day was fantastic... best ending to a series possible.

Crossroads? Good or bad? Both. I really liked the last episode up to and including Scott's movie which is where it should have finished. I think the "let's pass the series off as a dream" was the final nail in the coffin from Executive Producer at the time, Yvon Grace, certainly in the minds of MK2 hardcore fans, as the general consensus is that her revamp murdered the show.
