Home & Away

I think they're very "Seven" in style - which IMO is a good thing (I love Seven's presentation) and I think Seven may have even made them.

I think some storyline promos are needed, possibly even the end-of-ep promos from Oz which, although deliberately misleading, are designed to rope the casual flickers in and the Aussie ratings prove that the technique works.

It's a shame they've only done one ident, and of course they will be redundant when Bec Cartwright finishes as Hayley although this will not be until early 2006.

The view, like here, is that it's lost something with its soapy direction.

Home & Away

The original H&A thread seems to have gone walkies so...

...anyone notice that KFC have pulled out of sponsorship of the programme? Also this week a new ident has been launched for the show featuring some of the cast, and is quite different to Five's usual stuff.

London bombings - TV news coverage

I've critisized Five for the way they dropped two of their flagship programmes for a C-List film, however they gave the best coverage today as terrestial goes.

A 150 minute bully this morning as it happened, stopping at 2pm to go back to the normal schedule. They then had a 35 minute report at 5.30pm, which told viewers what has happened today in a much more dignified, consisce and clear way than the other networks did.

ITV were very guiilty of over-reporting, and I felt dropping everything between 10.30 and 7pm was rather extreme. Much better to have regular updates that gave you the facts rather than the milk.

ITV - dumbing down?

Edited on reflection!

London bombings - TV news coverage

Yep, Five's guides say that.

It looks like

5.30 Five News
6.00 Home & Away*
6.30 Family Affairs
7.00 Five News (Extended)

*It is quite possible that the 5.30pm is extended to 40 minutes. Home & Away can be chopped down to just 22 minutes when the ad breaks are taken out.

Incidentally, the lunchtime showings of H&A and FA, encore screenings of last night's eps, are now not being shown.

The Forums on www.backtothebay.net have got the episode dropped by Five, or for dialup users an extended video summary of the dropped episode so that viewers are bought up to speed.

London bombings - TV news coverage

Five still look set to run their normal bully at 5.30.

I'm guessing that they will show Home & Away and Family Affairs, then go to an extended bully at 7, like they did on 9/11.

I'm looking forward to getting Seven's Headland over here later this year, from the team behind H&A. When does it begin down there?

Many Aussie shows rely very heavily on their International audience, don't they?

The BBC audience must be about the only reason Neighbours is still going !

Seven have had a pretty good year, helped along by Lost and Desperate Housewives. The Home & Away Stalker Storyline has also helped boost ratings on the channel - the storyline is just starting up in the UK now.

I'd like Challenge to pick up repeats in their "Gameshow Gods" strand.
