Saturday morning TV memories

loydy posted:
SM:TV was my proper foray into Saturday morning TV. I watched it every week and had pretty much all of the merchandise released! I was sad when it finished, but really enjoyed Ministry of Mayhem when that started and think it did well to to mix some of what SM:TV was with a show like Tiswas. I feel like it's what Saturday Mash-Up is similar too now.

Here's a great sketch from SM:TV

Was rubbish after Ant and Dec left, I think that was around the time I switched to the bungalow.

Also, people have mentioned the Disney Club, but nobody's mentioned Diggit, which I think originally span off from it (I think they ran alongside each other for a few months?). One of the earliest TV jobs of Fearne Cotton. I think it only originally ran on Saturdays, but it later ran on Sunday too.

Diggit began in early 1998. It was live on Saturdays (from 7:10) replacing ‘wake up in the wildroom’ and recorded on Sundays (from 8:00) replacing ‘Roadhog’. Des (Paul Ballard) and Fearne Cotton both came from Disney Club with Fearne winning the search for a new presenter. Des was also part of Roadhog. As Diggit was the first live programme for both Des & Fearne the first month or so were hosted by Gail Porter as they found their feet.

Which later became "diggin it".

Remember the later years of going live and then L&K also did a L&K Friday for a bit too. Summer replacements on BBC One was Parallel 9 and Fully Booked which became FBI after a bit, I was getting older at the time but I did enjoy MOM (1,2,3 Mr Lee, Ram Ray Cakey Skate) but Saturday Showdown was very poor after MOM.

Jeremy Kyle Axed

Jonwo posted:
ITV ideally should be commissioning shows for that slot now so they can be ready for the Autumn.

That's almost certainly what they are doing. Of course there's an obvious place to film any replacement - the old Jeremy Kyle studio, which is now sitting idle when Kyle would have been recorded. That's why it's almost certain that at least something in that slot will be using the same facilities and budget as Kyle, and presumably with much of the production team involved.

Indeed where is The Sara Cox Show and it's predecessors filmed?

It's a Cactus production, so presumably at their own studio in Clapham.

I think Judge Rinder uses the same studio, but not sure what the setup is etc with who films when.

ITV News

Related to the above discussion, I noted recently that up in Granadaland they've recently launched a new video podcast, suitably titled 'From the North':

Looks like they've filmed it in their studio space, but not on the Granada Reports set and instead a fairly simple set-up in front of a massive screen.

I'm sure that is the Granada Reports set, I read somewhere they they have big curtains to cover the windows for when they film in the winter etc .

Global Radio axes all regional/local breakfast shows

Post on Facebook on the main heart page now (all local pages seem to have gone) over 7500 comments and 90% of them are unhappy listeners.

The local pages have been merged into the main one (if you look at the [page transparency' section on the side it shows this).

I think 90% is quite optimistic... I can't see one positive comment.

If I said all, someone would have found one positive response 😂😂

Also I can imagine the regional Smooth breakfast shows were just 1 man and no producer, a lot cheaper than Heart/Capital who had 2 presenters and a producer.

Yeah but I reckon all the stick Global have got with changing Heart Breakfast to Amanda Holden, especially here in the North West. I believe they have also had a rethink on the whole idea, and only time will tell if they keep the current changes etc.
