The BBC World News Thread

The new titles at the BBC are because of the job evaluation done a couple of years ago. People are just starting to use them a bit more.

They correlate to pay grades, so you have something like:

Presenter
Senior Presenter
Lead Presenter
Chief Presenter

A lot of reporters and correspondents have a pay grade title (similar to above) but then a different one that's used on-air.

They acknowledged at one point they were having technical problems with the sound and the link between London and Washington. Sounds like a lot of scrabbling around behind the scenes to keep them on-air.

2019 General Christmas election.

Apologies for poor quality from my screenshots, but these images are perhaps the virtual reality “portal” screens referred to in the Guardian article?

Guessing this will be the Andrew Neil set, but I'm trying to work out where it is. A small corner in Studio B?

Regardless, it appears that the hexagons are here to stay.

Those are from the rehearsals for daytime on Friday.

I presume coverage will be based in Studio B though?

Yep. Non TV Forumers may not recognise it though. The VR knob has been turned up to 11.

VR will be doing a lot more heavy lifting than that.

BBC News (UK) presentation - Reith launch onwards

Looking at the headline sequence on the News at 6 it does appear that despite the guidelines issued before launch, they have now reverted back to single line headlines, although they still appear to sticking to 3 word headline graphics guidance

I think the two-line headline was clashing with subtitles.

BBC regional news - Now with added Reith

It'd be nice if all BBC English Regions had totally consistent title sequence templates and theme music arrangements, but the Beeb seem to be chronically incapable of such an approach.

I've seen them.

Titles: yep, good, some nice new footage, not a massive change but a bit cleaner

Music: wow, much better (imho)

New BBC corporate font: BBC Reith

Will there be new titles for the generic bulletins when Reith rolls out? Or will they keep the current globe look originated from 2008, but with all other visual elements “Reithed”?🤔

They're telling us the current titles will stay exactly the same (even the Gill Sans place names) - just the BBC News tile is being updated to Reith.

They might be in need of a little nip and tuck, given their age. Wink

New BBC corporate font: BBC Reith

I'm not sure there are problems - these things always take a while to thoroughly test. European elections, Brexit votes and the search for a new Prime Minister have all kept designers and directors busier than they might have expected to have been a few months ago.

Elections 2019

Yes, page five of these plans suggests there were going to be two studios overlooking the newsroom at one point. Both facing each other though, which was probably dropped for obvious reasons.

If the BBC had known the expansion World Service TV would go through in this decade, I think the building would have been designed quite differently.
