Were they out of time at 8 or have the change the TOTH, hoping it's the former.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Look, please stop this pathetic speculation, the show is not affected, the presenting line-up is not affected, what is affected is the way the staff are treated and the way the editorial team is supported.
I applaud the sentiments here that time is needed to bed a show and team down, of course it does, but what happened at Daybreak was a disgrace – and ITV management had had enough of it.
Long-serving, loyal and hugely talented staff were ruthlessly sacked because Mr Kermode didn’t like them. One moment they were doing their jobs, the next they were ‘hauled up to the 14th floor’ for dismissal – except they weren’t dismissed, they were offered a ‘compromise deal’ to go away quietly and not speak about their ordeal in return for 3 months salary. People with families, children and mortgages who were doing good jobs - junked because a man didn't like the way you looked.
From the moment he arrived he dismissed and rubbished staff, many of whom successfully built GMTV – the very show he was trying to emulate. He created a climate of utter fear. People didn’t know if they had jobs from day-to-day, and were too scared to challenge him and his ideas in editorial meetings. Is that an environment that nurtures creativity?
His master plan of revitalising Daybreak was to copy GMTV – the music, the format, the main slots, and the writing style. Hell – he even copied the graphic sequence and logo. Ask the companies he commissioned the music and graphics from.
Hardly a new and innovative approach? Except he didn't copy the soul of GMTV.
And this from someone who supposedly turned around BBC Breakfast? Although it’s clear now that the changes were applied by another BBC manager.
The man made no attempt at learning anyone’s name, publically humiliated staff, and brought in his own flunkies from 5 News (with their belief that they had re-invented news far superior to the likes of anything on broadcast telly now or in the past), or installing his best friends as programme Editors.
Can anyone reveal how many RTS awards 5 News produced by Sky won?
Those ‘mates’ will be seriously thinking about their own positions, there are few people running to their defence.
There are no tears being shed for David Kermode. I’m told staff cheered when they heard of his demise and Karl Newton's appointment. I also hear at the end of the announcement staff clapped. So much for making an impact. So don’t believe a word from his spin-doctors in the Media Guardian. There was no interference from ITV management.
Karl Newton. A decent and funny human being. He has empathy, a common touch, pleasant management style, and staff love and respect him. He leaves them smiling and proud to work for ITV.

Was the opening bong sequence live today then? Surely if it was pre-recorded they would have sorted the titles/panels out before they aired?

Given that London Tonight is now originating from PCR1 and Studio 2 immediately before 6.30pm, I'd assume that it's going to have to be live every night from now on. Unless they pre-record them before 6.00pm, in which case they could be out of date by the transmission time, so that's probably unlikely.

IIRC the last couple of minutes of LT are pre-rec'd. The bongs at 6.30 will always be live now.

BBC Newsnight

Wow caught new Newsnight last night and apart from the camera work in the first minute being incredibly ropey the opening title sequence is rather terrible. It reminds me of something 'fan made'. It has the potential of being good but isn't executed well at all.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Nothing needs to happen now. No reactionary knee-jerk reaction to something that is only 6 weeks in.

It's positive that the share is increasing. Nobody wants Christine & Adrian to return that's just ridiculous, they were universally loathed. Lorraine & Aled don't have the same profile and that will suit ITV fine.

Viewing habits don't change overnight, they take months / years.

Well said!

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

On the subject of ratings, and now that we're 6 weeks into the relaunch, I was wondering if anyone (Cross Channel) could provide a detailed day-by-day ratings breakdown?

The ratings I've seen have all been in the 600-700k mark, so I was wondering what the officials actually are?

Yeah to be honest, it would take me all day to write a detailed breakdown but needless to say that 'Daybreak' isn't in crisis, we are on the appreciation index something we haven't made before (to the best of my knowledge) and as I've said we hit 1 million, 1.1 and sometimes 1.2 - yes our average is 700k but it is a marathon not a sprint, the show is strong, people are working hard, content is good and we are booking solid guests. It isn't a failure and the fact that we have made the AI suggests 'Daybreak' isn't as damaged as it once was.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Apparently this week has brought the biggest ratings since the relaunch - anyone know the figures?

no, their hovering at 600-700,000 from 6 til 830. much lower than this time last year. i think only one day has got 800,000 since the revamp

Where are you getting that from? The show regularly peaks at 1.1 and 1.2 on a good day. The average has been 700k but with a higher share than before.

ITV London Tonight

Shocking - truly shocking that a city the size of London can't have a decent local news programme. Look at New York, Toronto etc, etc...proper local news teams covering important local issues. That's what LT was back in 1993 and it is very sad to see this.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

First Granada (not even proper headlines) News of the day had Fred doing the weather than the last 2 updates had Kerri doing a voice over - any reason why? Or was it because after Fred's recording, last night, weather pattern had changed - if so they why hadn't they re-done the first bulletin weather?

Perhaps the weather needed updating - in case you've not heard it's been raining quite a lot recently Wink
and Fred was not available.

Just noticed it yesterday as I took a break from building my ark! Wink

Also has the whole layout of the studio changed from the start of the revamp. After a week I kind of figured where certain bits where but its seems to have gone to pot a little - Weather seems to have moved as well as the performance and kitchen areas.

The Studio Layout hasn't changed one bit since launch.

The weather is in front of Lorraine's set and gets moved out at 0830.

Daybreak relaunch with Lorraine and Aled

Kevin O'Sullivan's review of Daybreak in today's Sunday Mirror was quite controversial considering he works on the show with Lorraine reviewing the papers. I'd be surprised if we see him on the show again! For those who have not read it, he's not a fan of the studio, or Aled. I thought after just one week it was a slightly harsh review!

I'm sure the reason for his article being written that way had nothing to do with him being dropped from 'Lorraine' at the end of August.
