Daybreak: With Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones

Daybreak: With Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones

Cross Channel said that it was going to be a whole new name when I reffered to the middle show as Today (as in GMTV Today) so I don't know what that logo is for?

To clarify the 6-8:30 part will just be called Daybreak not Newshour and Today.

The Lorraine logo is similar but in pink and orange (forming peach) and the round ball (sun) is on the right of the logo.

Is the music changing or staying the same? I'd be quite sad to see the music go, its quite good and the tune does stick in your head which, for brand awareness, is helpful.

Yes the music is completely changing. Both have the same tune but Daybreak is more newsy and Lorraine less newsy.

Jack Morton would have been a good guy to get in to design the set, his work on both Good Morning America and Channel 7's Sunrise was excellent!

I think I'm in love with the News desk from CTV's 2010 Olympic coverage. Embarassed

They were invited to pitch so I understand but were too busy with Olympics.

Daybreak: May 2012 until Revamp

Nobody, I assumed they'd remix it? and I was referring to the Lorraine and Aled part as 'Today' like it was on GMTV.

No afraid not. I see what you mean about the 'Today' reference. ALL NEW!

I do hope that Mcasso can mix some title music pieces and stings from the current News Bed and Sting tracks for the Newshour and possibly a more 'exciting' version of the current Daybreak for the 'Today' part of the show. Wouldn't mind a voiceover returning, male or female.

Who said anything about Mcasso producing the music? Or a 'Today' part for that matter? Shocked

On Richard's showbiz preview, he was in the gallery and I noticed 'Lorraine' end boards on the monitors, does TLS 7 share a gallery with TLS 3or have they merged the galleries early?

No but 'Lorraine' (currently in Studio 2 for the summer) goes through the Studio 7 vision desk because Studio 7 cuts back to itself for news at 9am.

Five News from ITN

I thought the evening bulletins were pre-recorded close to transmission? In any case, the bulletin in question wasn't Chloe's fault and she handled it well under those circumstances.

They used to be towards the latter end of the Sky contract (nothing to do with Sky and more to do with the cheapness of Desmond), at ITN they are live but done on the CHEAP!

Wrong. Sky News decided to start pre-recording them more than a year before Richard Desmond took over. They're now all live at ITN and no more done 'on the cheap' than the BBC's update at 8pm. In fact ITN clearly spend a lot more on them as many of the Sky-produced updates were done against a dodgy 'green screen'.

Wrong. Sky News DIDN'T decided to pre-record them, they were forced to by the network slashing their budget.

Correct. The pre-recording started before Desmond took over.

Wrong. Weekday lunchtime and evening updates were produced with a full crew including a jimmy jib and a floor manager. (From Feb 2011)

Correct. The weekends were truly 'on the cheap'.

Wrong. The green screen was no more dodgy than the current awful 5 news offering as it was often not a green screen it was a large plasma situated in the Sky News mezz with a graphic background fed in to it.

NBC News, MSNBC, ABC News and others from across the pond

Just to put into context how badly Ann was treated after 15 years of service to Today, this is a part of the send off they gave to Meredith after 5 years on the programme.

Sky News: Presentation Discussion

Thank you that someone finally also says what I think. Normally noone understands why I don't like the presentation and onscreen graphics. Why do they have a newswall? Not to use it? Although I have to say that I like the new TOTH.

Since they got the new boring graphics, and stopped using 100 different pres points in the studio have the ratings for Sky News gone A) Up or B) Down.

Once you have answered that question, you may realise why nobody really cares about your demands that the graphics are boring. Nobody* watches Sky News for the graphics, or for long sweeping shots of Eamon Holmes walking down a staircase to get to his next report.

* within statistical error

I hear you and do agree but I just think its a shame that a lot of the essence of what sky news was about and what made it more watchable from the beeb has been lost. Again, saying that you are indeed correct it's about the content and the coverage and not whether Kay is standing or sitting as that doesn't really make much difference.
