Sky News | General Discussion

Dave posted:
4am UK and another Ocean Rescure documentary is on.
5am Hotspots on now.

Wonder if Sunrise will go ahead in an hour?

Did Sunrise start at 6am as normal? Seems they must have had some major issues to not manage any live news overnight.

Sky News | General Discussion

Problems during the 23:30 Press Preview on Sky News, it appeared to abruptly cut away from the Glass Box to a special report which then ended mid-sentence with a wipe but without a fade on the sound into the adverts before midnight. The Pledge on now as per schedule.
EDIT: Always check twitter before posting here. It seems they couldn’t broadcast the 23:30 papers so a repeat of the previous nights was shown instead before clearly someone thought bad idea and cut to the special report mentioned above. Not sure of exactly what the issue was, but to show the previous nights sounds like one of the worst contingency plans.

What I liked about this latest CBB was that every single eviction was a straightforward two people, one against the other. It was quite refreshing. They had been manipulating the evictions in recent series so that 4, 5 or 6 would be up at once and not following the original rule that just the top two with most votes were up, or only in the event of a tie would a third or fourth be up.

Surely they can’t put how many people they want up for eviction? The housemates nominate, then if it’s a normal 1 person leaving eviction, the two with the most go up for eviction, it’ll only be more if nominations are tied or if it’s double or triple eviction. I can see what you mean that it’s nice to have to the simple one vs one battle for eviction, but if it’s not it’s down to the nomination not the producers manipulating it. And to be honest I prefer when more people are up for evictions as there’s less likely of a big personality leaving.

No the producers were constantly changing the minimum number of people up for eviction. Often it would be the three people with the most votes would go up, sometimes it would be four, sometimes anyone who received even one nomination would go up. The higher the minimum number is the more likely you are to get ties in the number of nominations which is when you’d get as many as 6 people up. The last few series have had no clarity as to how many housemates would be up, even during the nominations process which has always felt incredibly frustrating and manipulative. Going back to just the top two hasn’t been done for many years and has felt refreshing.

I stand corrected. I don’t watch the show consistently, I only watch the odd CBB series. Moving the goal posts on the minimum number of housemates up for eviction seems like a deliberate ploy to manipulate who gets evicted.

Sky News: Presenters & Rotas

I think it’s a step back in a way, moving from the breakfast slot which is regarded as one the biggest slots bar 10pm. However since his role on Sunrise has been limited somewhat then moving to three shifts where he hosts solo is probably better for him. However if they’re moving Niall to Sunrise I think it’s a safe bet it’s going double headed once more, Niall is very good and would be wasted doing Jonathan’s current role.
It seems a straight swap for Jonathan and Niall, with Jonathan moving to 10-2 on Saturday/Sunday & on a Friday Sky News Tonight 7-9.
I’m assuming Isabel will return to Fri-Sun Sunrise? Gillian therefore returning to Fri 11-2 & Sat/Sun 5-8.

New look STV News at Six

It’s nice to see STV doing something a bit different, although sounds like a challenge for the team to produce it. So Sport/Weather Forecast are separate for the East & West, but how much of the rest of the programme is split?
It’ll be interesting to see how they manage a big story that is very East based, a crime report shall we say about an incident in Edinburgh not really a lot of relevance to the west of the region, so does that mean it’ll go down the running order? So that more general Scottish (or central Scottish) News can feature at the top of the programme or will the West have to endure a top story about something of only little relevance?
Also the voiceover at the start isn’t very good, it should be the “This is STV News at Six with xxx in Glasgow & xxx in Edinburgh” the other way round feels odd. I’m not sure I’m a fan of the actual voice either.

Jeremy Kyle was due to present today with Kate but they revealed at the top of the show, he was ill so couldn’t appear. Charlotte presented with Kate, meaning there was no separate newsreader.

I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! 2018

Holly Willoughby does seem a likely choice, it would mean she’ll be absent from TM for what at least five weeks? Could be the reason why This Morning has been trying out a few new presenters over the last few weeks. Lisa Snowdon or Mollie King could take over for a few weeks if Holly does go to Australia.
Caroline Flack is one name I’d be tempting to put forward too, people know her from Strictly, Xtra Factor and that one series of X Factor (albeit that series of X Factor wasn’t brilliant) but more importantly Love Island has been really big so Caroline could also help keep the younger audience interested in the show.
Laura Whitmore I’d also suggest, she was pretty good on the ITV2 spin off show and always seemed to work well with Ant and Dec. She’s done strictly and been popping up on GMB recently so while not a big ITV face, she’s still recognised.
I’d be very surprised to see Cat Deeley present, she’d be practically unknown to like under 25s. I also think Scarlett Moffatt would be a big mistake, the ITV2 show wasn’t brilliant last year, it still misses a proper presenter like Caroline or Laura.

Good Morning Britain

Whatever you think of Mr Moron, the programme is certainly an easier watch with him on it. When he's off, they revert to the UK breakfast tv rulebook of cheesy nonsense.

I can't quite believe I'm saying this but when Morgan is on, it's the only time to watch.

They need to let Ben & Kate go I think. Focus on the partnership of Morgan & Susanna & (if they can persuade him) Eamonn & Charlotte.

Richard Madeley and Charlotte might be a better pairing for Friday’s, Richard is more similar to Piers and would give the program more consistency. Charlotte is perfectly capable as the second female presenter (as shown in the first year of GMB), but could perhaps be a little more feisty/assertive in interviews.

Given that Madeley hasn’t appeared at all over the summer, are we to assume that he’s since changed his mind about joining the program? Unless he is set to start in September (although that seems unlikely).

Yes it’s surprising that Madeley hasn’t appeared yet over the summer, there’s always next week where he might show up. Because you’d hope for September it’d be consistent with the regular line up for at least a few weeks, so no room for guest presenters. However, Adil Ray seems to be lined up for another guest stint, he seemed to suggest in a few weeks so I’m assuming he’s not on next week (27th August W/C). And since Adil Ray is presenting again it suggests Madeley may not be joining the team after all.

David Walliams Presents Alright on the Night

What gets me with this show is that it’s all just clips we’ve seen before, for 9pm ITV I’d have liked more unseen/modern clips. I only watched the last half hour but I honestly got bored with all the bits I’ve seen 12 times previously. Surely the ITV soaps will have a fair few outtakes? I’m pretty sure ITV Daytime (GMB, TM, LW) will no doubt have some funny moments or slight mishaps to air. I’d have liked to see more of those

Good Morning Britain

GMB has recorded its lowest ratings in months this week, slipping below 500k.

Monday: 493k (16.5%)
Tuesday: 495k (15.7%)

I’m not entirely sure whether you could fairly attribute the lower ratings to Jeremy Kyle presenting or not. His usual program may be quite popular, but I don’t think his style works very well at all early in the morning. The other daytime shows are rating as they usually do, so it’s unlikely that a large number of people being on holiday are affecting the figures.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the ratings go back up to the 750k region when Piers and Susanna return. Too much silliness over the summer might have lost any momentum that they were gaining.

And the Breakfast ratings? It's the summer holidays, they must be low too

Monday and Tuesday last week Breakfast were at 1.5m.

Mon 1.5m (44.2% share)
Tue 1.5m (43.3% share)

GMB is going to suffer more than breakfast in terms of school holidays I think. Breakfast has always been a aimed at a more professional target market whereas ITV has aimed for more mums on the school runs etc. Not an exact science but possibly something in it? I also have to agree that there’s a been a few too many silly moments, milking a cow at 8.20 and doing ‘air guitar’ in the studio at 7.55 has possibly been a little too daft.

Erron Gordon has just retweeted an article about GMA with the comment “We love a tweaked GMB opening too 😉”.

Well, let's see whether this leads to anything. I'd hazard a guess that if the intro will be tweaked, it will be done when Piers and Susanna return.

EDIT: Here are the two intros from GMA from the last two days. I could see the first one working for GMB.

I wonder if they’ll possibly change the TOH sequence to include the whole team, the way the 6am opening is going is all about the whole team around the desk. They could start doing this with the TOH?
Susanna introducing the lead news item, Piers introducing guest/debate topic, Charlotte with second big news story, Richard with the Showbiz/Entertainment item, and then Laura doing a weather preview into the titles. Then the opening chat at the desk.
UBox, Ittr and Ben Shatliff gave kudos
