BBC News - Film 24

Very nice as always Lee. Like the 'three globe' frame especially. As a develpment, how about wrapping the ribbons so they form some sort of 'red carpet' effect?

Overall. it has a kind of crystal ball feel which I like, for its connotations of new releases and looking ahead. Would like to see some imagery in the endframe. Far too often in titles, the sequence is dropped in favour of an easy endboard.

My first mock

Welcome.

In terms of construction these are fine. They could work on air which is always a good start point.
They follow the conventions, though they could adhere closer to safe areas. A good start.

In terms of development, look at what is currently being used, and what you've achieved so far, then push the design; can you differentiate more for each strand (headlines, entertaintment, sport etc...). Could you change colours, width of bars, ticker transparency, text weight ? Always consider those design elements which will lead to better transfer of information.

Well done, but go further into new design.

I think the moon in the background gives it that Newsnight look. The 6 looks better. Dan, what globe did you use? I don't recognise it, do you have a link to the mock?

And with BBC News rebranding again in November, who knows....

Really what like new titles and stuff?

Well, I've heard it will be November 18th at 0600pm. And there will be a new desk which lights up all colours and spins whenever breaking news comes in. There'll also be a state-of-the-art tie-changer that springs down from the ceiling at the start of each story (red for breaking, golden glitter for showbiz, black for a royal death). Razz

Damn, your contacts are good! Though it will actually be 0400 due to the new Breakfast start time. The desk will miss out the colour green, in order to please the majority of Forumers. Hadn't thought of the tie idea, but if the viewers want it.... Wink

BBC News

you're right; 18 wouldn't look right, esp as it's known as the 6, and called the 6 o'clock news, but then neither is 06 right, filler or not, as this represents 6am. Sorry, this falls at the first hurdle, putting the name of the programme on the titles. Why not just 6 in the centre?

All that said, the more I look at the design, the more I like it. And with BBC News rebranding again in November, who knows....

Anyone know what the music is, used in the trail for Edwardian Super size me on BBC4 tonight?
Been told it may be Narcissus, something, but by who, where from etc.

Cheers

Good progression. Many of the comments have weight and it's great to see you taking them on board. It's always interesting to see someone progress an idea based on peoples comments and I'd say each stage is an improvement.

Personally, I'd like to see some variation in font weights for emphasis, and some vertical deliniation on the straps to help legibility. I like the potential for changing the logo for specials. I like the ticker transparency, though It may be better to have it as 50% white, so that you keep the difference between the bottom line black. Try to develop backgrounds, which theme with the straps, rather than just using a titles grab

Keep going and pay little attention to those who's comments lack rational thought.

Concise, clean, clear, crisp. A strong undersatnding of brand values.
One would expect nothing less from the admirable Q.

Nice one.

BBC Brand

These MAY not be as disasterous as they first appear. In the same way that Five convinced us recently, that a for letter word in their font, placed on the left of screen, represented their brand sufficiently, so this COULD work for the BBC. What you need to do is establish the '3 blocks motif, as relating directly to (and crucially ONLY to) the BBC. Yes, it does remind us all of N DS, so take it away from that arena. Look at the awy the BBC use the blocks; could you use them , not to replace the logo, but to supplement it. I think the font needs development; maybe try using numerical characters instead. What about putting the numbers inside the final or first block.

Personally, I like the fact that you're trying something different. don't be too disheartened. Keep it up.

Sky News Budget 2007

Good design, layout and composition, but consider your emphasis.
The main purpose of the graphic in this instance is the information,
i.e. the text relating to tax changes. This needs to be either a lot bigger
or have more emphasis in some other way. Your eye is drawn to the vt.
This is often a problem with Sky coverage, lots of effort, little thought or brief.
