ITV News Channel (reposted)

The ITV News dog is a problem in creating mocks - mainly because the standard ITV colours don't match the News colours and the standard ITV News logo doesn't work.

The dog above is large due to originally being designed to include the word CHANNEL on the ITV News Channel, with the squares designed for ITV1 programmes. If I redid them, the square would be replaced with a clock and the dog would be more two toned.

Anyway - a couple of ideas for dogs (no images - your welcome to do them).

1: The blue/yellow ITV News logo is simply slapped over the old ITN dog in the top left corner, with the clock on a transparent background towards on it's right, and possibley the web address.

2: More complex (tried to mock it, but couldn't) - a 3D dog: The blue yellow ITV News style logo is on screen, but under the ITV logo rather than NEWS the clock appears. Then to match it with the ITV News titles, the word NEWS CHANNEL forms a circle which rotates on a slant (like during headlines) in front of and behind the dog.

ITV World Cup v BBC World Cup

The ITV theme wins hands down - it indicates the oriental locations far more than the BBCs.

At the end of BBC programmes (def. highlights / unsure about live coverage), they show highlights, squeeze them into a slanted rectangle (of reasonable size), and then play the theme (or other song) for 30secs before switching the scene to a Next Match on BBC1 (BBC One written in old style, but thats for a different thread) caption, and zooming out again.

It's as if the credits are intended to appear on the left - but they never do.

Is it beginning to annoy anyone else?

World Cup 2002 - presentation from around the world

MARKSM74 posted:
I think when analogue TV signals are eventually switched off, whenever that will be, broadcasters will no longer need to show the score and time at the top of the screen. Instead, viewers can have the choice of displaying it on the screen using digital text.

In fact..this could be possible now. Analogue transmissions can show the score box while digital viewers won't have to. Or would broadcasters not be able to justify the extra expense of providing separate analogue and digital feeds?

This could be done now using Teletext in-vision, but I disagree with your idea.

Why in the future should the viewer have to decide whats on the screen - people are paid to make these decision for us, and most viewers just want to sit and watch the TV. Although some interactive ideas are good, they should be for extras, rather than getting you involved in the production of the programme.

Multi-Channel TV Ratings

And the BBC believe they can justify increased spending on these channels...

ITV World Cup v BBC World Cup

The ITV studio/interview astons are there own (poor, in my opinion), but the main game astons come from the host broadcaster, which I prefer - what's the point in doing your own if the host ones are fine (BBC take note - 1998: use host graphics (in French), 2002 - drop host graphic (in English).

Disappointed ITV seem to have dropped their own World Cup logo - it was far superior to the official one.

Also, the on-screen clocks/scores on both channels are very bad - ITV and BBC had got it right in the following format:

i t v Country 0
00:00 Country 0

but now have dropped it in favour of ITV's giant aston and the BBC strip aston. Abbreviating is not suitable, especially for the World Cup - they are not even using obvious abbreviations.

The Big Brother Thread

The first eviction of last year was good, with the full 60 second countdown, followed by a short piece of dance music. However, rather than a personal tune, I would then play the BB theme.

At the old house, meeting the family at the gate was better, but space does not allow at the new house, so in the studio is probabley best, although the route could be diverted to extended the eviction walkway and allow them to meet the family.

Also, use the BBLB studio for the main show - it is far superior to the main studio.

ITV World Cup v BBC World Cup

No, it was a 2/3 split to BBC in 98, with a match each plus shared Germany coverage in Euro 2000.

C4 ending end-credit promotions?

They seem to be disappearing. Rather than at the end of the show, promotions have been after with a 4 ident as a background, a large picture of the advertised book or just the text/website for the programme.

Well until England qualify for the Second Round, it doesn't really matter who is better, because you have to watch both channel's coverage.

If, not when!!!

You can judge now - I actually prefer BBCs presentation (graphically) but generally ITV as a package. And to be fair, if Eng qualify for the 2nd round, shouldn't it be live on ITV (as in 9Cool with RofIre on BBC.

The Big Brother Thread

Does anyone else think the Big Brother Little Brother studio is far superior to the eviction studio - I prefer the eye sofas (as in series 1 and the BBLB studio) for the eviction chat than the head to head chairs.

What did you think of Dermots interview with Sunita - she may not have been the best person for her to audition for Davina's job with, but he just did not have the reassuring nature Davina has.

Dermot obviously loves BB, but with Davina it's obvious she loves the contestants, and takes care of them when they leave.

It's not the same without the bridge, but I do like the house and them leaving down the stairs. However, the security fences around the house seem to cover a smaller distance than the old house.

Also, showing the task live on C4 was pointless - the old task format was superior. If they want an extra live show use it for the nominations.

Just found the Teletext pages for Big Brohter - C4 p210, including news (211) and chat (212-5), plus "Big Brother holidays" (216).
