What was your favorite regional ITV station growing up?

Being from the YTV region it was always enjoyable to see the friendly IVC faces on the neighbouring Granada and Tyne Tees which we were able to receive. You’d also get three chances to watch Crossroads each evening 6.02pm Tyne Tees, 6.05pm Granada and YTV at 6.35pm.
As a fan of Aussie soaps I was always curious as to what stage other regions had reached with their airings. Of all the English regions I feel YTV viewers didn’t get treated as fairly as others as they missed around 800 episodes of The Sullivans, around 250 episodes of Thr Young Doctors, most of NZ’s Shortland Street, all of Blue Heelers, all of Echo Point, all of GP and all of Paradise Beach. STV and UTV also fared badly with Aussie soaps however they did provide far more locally made productions to be screened locally than all other English regions.

We didn’t get Echo Point, Paradise Beach or GP in the Granada region. I know Central showed GP but unsure if any other region showed it.

Apart from A Country Practice, Central we’re ahead of the game with the Aussie Soaps and the same with Shortland Street.

What was your favorite regional ITV station growing up?

Definitely Granada without any shadow of a doubt.

When I used to visit St. Ives in Cornwall I used to enjoy Westcountry and I like their original logo which has a different feature behind the letter W.

Even though I always had an interest in how other Regions looked; their news coverage and also the different variants with the Australian Soaps; I still enjoyed returning home and watching Granada.

ITV News

As much as every day is a Bank Holiday for many at the moment I think it is important people try as much as possible to have a weekend and somehow probably make more of Easter than perhaps they usually would. Easier said than done of course in the current circumstances but TV has a part to play in that and the BBC at least are putting a bit of effort in to differentiate it by using the Indianna Jones films across the weekend.

I don't think COVID-19 lockdown is seen by anyone as "day-after-day of bank holidays". What people normally do at Easter is spend time with their relatives and have extra time off work for leisure to visit places. It's a rather irrelevant analogy at the moment when many people don't know when they will even be going back to work.

Many of the 100s of TV channels available don't change their schedules during holiday periods anyway, but I think it's noticeable that the main PSBs aren't really pushing any Easter message.

I suspect that many parents will have already sought out sources for films/box sets over the last 3 weeks. Netflix have reported a 15% increase.

I have been off work for most of this week as I normally would be for Holy Week. I have watched Easter Masses streamed online and will continue to over the rest of the weekend.

I can see good and bad points to reduced news today and on Easter Monday.

Good like has already been said as giving the main points and shorter bulletins.

Bad in the fact that last year for most of the Bank Holidays they kept to the normal 6PM hour of news. It seemed odd in that case not to continue this time.

We are in difficult times and it is best to try to contrite as normal and we will get through this eventually 👍

Classic Emmerdale

In just over a year we've gone from starting in 1989 to 1995, Impressive! Also, is the Dingle house the only set not to receive a major makeover? From what I saw on today's classic Emmerdale it looks the same back then as it does now! Even when they had a whole wall knocked down a few years ago, they managed to rebuild it without changing much of the set.

Isn't the interior now filmed in a studio rather than at the set itself, because it wasn't good enough for HD?

I thought they moved to an interior set when Lisa gave birth to Belle as they thought it wasn’t right to film the outdoor scenes with a baby.

UK Prime Minister | TV News Coverage

ITV News probably could have done with the extra half hour tonight to do everything justice - I'm not saying what ITV News showed wasn't worthwhile, but it did seem to be at the expense of their usual round up of the wider picture across the UK and around the world. As others have said too there is an air of "journalists know best" going around at the moment with how they're approaching the Boris story in particular.

Maybe for some people Boris's condition will be the point it sinks in (for me it was when Charles tested positive that I realised nobody was immune) and of course there are serious questions about the leadership of the country - for what it's worth I think Boris has handled it pretty well given the circumstances.

It's also worth saying that I've always felt in situations like this it doesn't do anybody any favours to have continued reporting and speculating on somebodies condition and that out of respect for the patient and their family the media need to accept that they'll get brief updates as and when necessary. I'm trying to think who it was and I've a feeling it wasn't a Royal or senior politician but remember a story a few years back with a major name in hospital and it pretty much feeling like the whole media were on death watch and just treated it as a story with little respect for the person at the centre of it.

You are spot on.

Was it Michael Schumacher after the skiing accident?

ITV 2019 idents and presentation - ITV Creates

Just wondering how the regional news announcements are going as generally speaking here at least they usually have a variation namechecking the main presenting pair or just something generic. Are they using variations just name checking one host?

Here in Granadaland they are name checking the one presenter who is presenting that night. So far it has either been Lucy Meacock or Tony Morris who are the two main anchors.

Before this they used to name check only when Lucy and Tony presented together. Otherwise it would be a generic announcement for Granada Reports In The North West.

It does make me wonder why they can;t always address whoever is presenting but they may already have recordings for just Lucy or Tony.

Good Morning Britain in 2020

I'm current on a 14 day self isolation and have found Good Morning Britain very informative with the horrible crisis we as a country are going through.

Regardless of what anybody says about Piers; he gets to the point and says what a lot of the rest of us are thinking. I've seen people on Social Media agreeing with his stance this week and they don;t normally like him.

I personally think Piers is good. The best day for me so far was yesterday when Piers and Ranvir presented and both got to the point and said what the rest of us were thinking.

I think it has been fantastic to see Piers and Lorraine presenting as well as Dr Hilary Jones being a regular round the desk as well.

IMO they should ask Piers to do five days over the next few weeks. Ditch Ben and Kate and let Ranvir cover for Susannah on Fridays as well as covering for Charlotte on Wednesdays. Charlotte too has done a fantastic job. Let Piers and Lorraine continue from 9Am-10AM Mondays to Thursdays and Piers and Ranvir on Fridays.

I only watched bits today because I was unimpressed by the fluffiness of Ben and Kate. I am sorry but I have said before about the un-professionalism of Ben and Kate in the past.

Sorry for a rant but these are my own views. I just feel at times like this we need the right mix with presenters.

Coronavirus | General TV News Coverage

Perhaps it would be appropriate for ITV regional news to drop dual presentation, what with some co hosts themselves off air and have the fill in instead reporting. Thus reducing the regional news magazine approach with the newsier circumstances.

That was kind of what I was suggesting on top of shorter news updates.

That could work for both BBC and ITV.

As was suggested over the weekend a lot of what is on the national news is Also on regional news too.

Have updates during Breakfast and Good Morning Britain. Then ten minutes during One, Six and Ten.

Coronavirus | General TV News Coverage

Today's ITV Granada Reports Lunchtime Update much shorter than usual; not surprising really.

Regional lunchtime news down to 1:30 for the foreseeable and all out of programme weathers scrapped

Thank You.

I wonder if it may be an idea to have a hour long ITV Evening News and possibly BBC too from 6PM-7PM with may be ten minutes of regional news; during these very sad times.

Nightshift

This is a spin off thread (after a fashion)of the one regarding LBC News.

Do the BBC and ITV regional newsrooms work throughout the night. Obviously they're active during elections etc but is there a permanent presence.

I very much doubt it ! Are any of the 22:30 ITV bulletins even live ?

Although I assume staff start turning up at 04:30 ish for the breakfast stuff ?

The ITV Granada Reports 22:30 update is definitely live as they have had live OB.

Alastair Stewart to leave ITV News.

ITN coming across really badly in this - just no need for that statement. I've followed him on Twitter for years and never seen anything questionable.

Are you joking?
He has been "tired and emotional" for years on there

I too have followed and had conversations with Alastair for a very long time on Twitter. I have seen no evidence of him being tired and emotional.

I have seen debates but I will say again; he always maintained the fact like others that all views were his own.

Alastair Stewart to leave ITV News.

GMB? Wow. How did Piers handle that? He himself was rather nasty to Alastair on Twitter a few months back, and then actually blocked him! Mind you, Piers blocks anyone and everyone.

Must have been an awkward discussion for him this morning.

It was Ben, Susannah and Kate this morning.

I am very saddened by what has happened. Alastair Stewart is the best presenter of the modern age and a professional to a tee. The same gravitas as the late Sir Alastair Burnett.

Alastair has said he has done wrong but I think it has been taken out of perspective. Lily many presenters he always says all views are his own.

If he has breached any rules which I personally think he hasn’t; a warning or discussion on conduct is all that was needed.

To suddenly end 40 years of high quality journalism and presenting whether mutually or sacked is completely wrong.

Lang people in all walks of life and that includes politicians have done worse and still kept their roles or in some cases, lost their jobs but then made a comeback.

I hope what is ITN and ITV’s loss will be another broadcasters gain.

Granada Reports

Am I right in thinking Tony Morris has not presented Granada Reports since December?

I do hope all is ok.

Thank You 👍

Classic Emmerdale

Has the episode where Kathy and Rachel take Chris swimming been on yet? From memory that was the turning point in Chris moving from Kathy to Rachel.

I can’t answer that to be honest as I stopped watching a couple of weeks after the Plane Crash aired. I found the programme had changed.

Classic Emmerdale

Today's second episode was Annie's final episode as a regular. She returns briefly in 1995, 96 and 2009, but that's it. We see Joe's final episode next week too, two original characters and actors gone in a flash. Amos only has a couple more brief stints as well. Only a single digit number of episodes remaining for all three.

I guess it's fitting that we see the first Dingle next week. The next major family appearing on the show as the original central family is drifting away.

I thought Annie and Joe left together initially in 1994. Although as I previously stated; Sheila Mercier’s departure was kept very low key.

It looks like I was wrong in both of my thoughts on this.

Good Morning Britain in 2020

The local news actually happened at exactly 6:15 and let me tell you... it definitely felt weird.

I am pleased to see the local news at 6:15 on time. Not impressed by the new opener nor the world as it is now part. I like the news update.

Will see more when I return home this evening.
