…and finally

This might be my last post here, depending on when Asa switches off the lights

I have to agree with a post above that the closure and then transition to a replacement forum couldn't have been better handled. With both enough time to get our heads around it here, and enough time to set up a new forum.

Thanks to Asa for creating and maintaining the forum over the last 20 years and also the great idea to leave the forum as an archive that can still be referred to, looking back at how all those breaking news moments kicked off in real time.

Can't believe its been 20 years. Here's to the next 20 years, although that is quite a scary thought.

As they say on GMB "The conversation continues..."

Simon McCoy

So as do we think Reeta is now the new Mon-Wed host of the 1, and afternoon on BBC News seen as she presented this week? Or is she a stand in for a few weeks while they appoint someone new? They must have known for 2-3 months about Simon leaving as guessing he has a 3 month notice period (unless they mutually agreed an early leaving) so would have had plenty of time to arrange a permanent cover to start from today. Only other person (unless Jane Hill wanted to do Mon-Wed) I can think of is Martine Croxall.

I don’t think it will become clear until we are past the Easter holiday period. Reeta and Clive will no doubt be presenting bulletins all over the place over the next two weeks.

Big Ends

It must have been very difficult for many of the staff present who were going to be working for TVS as well.
Southern should have had an idea what the IBA wanted to hear on their franchise application, after all they had seen TWW lose theirs 12 years earlier, so it wasn't a given that the incumbent would just have it reawarded.

It was actually worse than that. The IBA initially returned Southern's 16 page application and told them to come back with something more detailed.

Who knew Claude Littner used to work for the IBA

16 bloody pages, 8 of them were sketches of example logos Laughing

As well as the new briefing room, I think it’s the first time Shaun Ley has presented a Coronavirus News Special

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

According to Twitter that whole bit was scripted anyway - it did seem a bit rehearsed anyway, but that confirms it.

(Here’s the tweet for anyone who wants to see it)

Is there any verification that that is true, to me its just a random person tweeting

Coronavirus | Television News Coverage

Going back to the start of this thread, it’s an interesting read, and one of the good reasons why the forum will remain as an archive

Reactions to the first news conferences, the streamlining of the news channel with the VD Show axed. BBC London and South East joining forces, regional news going single headed and various veteran presenters self isolating. Exercise slots introduced on Breakfast, the 9am live BBC One health show commissioned, the Wednesday evening Salford produced BBC News special (that didn’t last very long)

Stuff that we have become accustomed to now. Question Time with no audience, desk mics used in the news studios, presenters doing their own make up, guests and paper reviewers all being down the line, interviews and vox pops done with microphones on the ends of long sticks

Of course we also had predictions both more and less serious than what actually happened. Many expecting it all to be over in a few weeks or months, but also the suggestions early on that so many staff would be self isolating that schedules would be cut to the bare bones (channel and world simulcasting all day, regions cut to 10 mins, all the sub opts dropped, newsnight, Marr etc dropped, etc etc) which of course didn’t really happen

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

Like others have said, the audience surprises work better when the audience is actually there rather than having to come up with an excuse to bring them to the studio

The one with the teacher in episode 1 worked very well though

There is clearly not going to be a similar show with Stephen Mulhern, it was just a bit of fun. Many have tried similar shows and few get it to work.

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

Well I’ve noticed a pattern

Part 6 is always the end of the show show
Part 5 is the reveal of the Takeaway rainbow and Win the Ads
Part 4 is the main headline feature either Undercover or Get out of my Ear, or the On air Dares tonight
Part 3 is Ant vs Dec but only in every other week, stuff like Singalong Live fills in other weeks
Part 2 is the Happiest Minute of the Week (scientifically proven to always take place in part two of your Saturday Night Takeaway) and Double Trouble
Part 1 is the either the audience surprise or stuff like Read My Lips

Episode 4 was the strongest in my opinion with the sea shanty finale, with either episode 2 (the Gordon Ramsey one) or 6 being the weakest, although it was really only part 1 which let the side down tonight, episode 2 also had that Singalong Live with the west end musical that didn’t really work, so I’d go with episode 2

Of course next week is the first time in many many years where the series finale is live from a studio in London

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

Well I know some people around here and on the internet are negative at the best of times so they clearly wouldn't have liked that item, but for me, I could watch Ant and Dec reading out the phone book, and even I'd agree that that segment just didn't land. Mainly due to the member of the public being not shocked or surprised in the slightest. She was too confident as if she's on national TV every week. I imagine Ant and Dec felt the same.

Of course elsewhere on the internet it'll be full of hyperbolic stuff that the whole show was bad, the whole series was bad and it should be axed, whereas in reality it was one item out of about 42 items this series!

Saturday Night Takeaway 2021

Awful show tonight so far.

I agree. Tonight just seems really flat (and I'm not talking about Andy's voice during Sing-a-Long Live).

There is absolutely no atmosphere at all and at some points even A&D look a bit bored.

The Ross Kemp section seemed a bit out of place too. The woman who was "surprised" surely noticed the massive Takeaway logo on the video screens beside here before the doors opened. You could see them on screen as she was placed behind the door.

She was not one bit surprised. The moment she walked out on to the stage with Ant and Dec, there was not one bit of nerves, and a pretend shocked expression did not fool me.

Alex Belfield on YouTube has said that Saturday Night Takeaway is 100% rehearsed and nothing is left unplanned, unlike Noel's House Party which did leave things unplanned.

Firstly, who cares what Alex Belfield thinks, you quote him like he's the ultimate opinion you must take notice of

Secondly, which parts of Noel's House Party were left unplanned and by that I mean actually unplanned not just pretend unplanned?
