…and finally

Asa thank you for creating TV Forum and I have enjoyed participating for 18 and a half years. Is there any way a group of us could maybe look at continuing this Forum in another form? I would not know where else to go to get the latest information.

A spiritual successor is currently in development. See @tvliveforum on twitter.

Global Radio... on TV

I think that looks really cool and would be a great addition to Global Player

Although I think the station logo needs to be featured somewhere.

BT TV / YouView Rebrand

I think that BT has one of the best TV service offerings in the UK. I also think that Google TV has the nicest looking UI in the business. For that reason I have decided to alter BT's YouView skin to look more like the Google TV UI seen on the latest Chromecast.

Enjoy!

There are two remotes shown because this rebrand would also get rid of BT's Mini Box and swap it with a 'WiFi TV Box' which would run on Google TV. It would use an altered version of the BT TV Guide which would be launched through the 'Guide' button (to the right of Google Assistant) on the control - this app would effectively work like the current 'TVPlayer' app for Android/Google TV.

This WiFi box would have a larger focus on streaming which is why it has more shortcut buttons to popular streaming sites and no number pad.

BTs main TV box would also receive a refresh and include Google Assistant support and a Chromecast Built-in. This will mean that the two boxes work in more similar ways.

This upgraded YouView box would be marketed as the 'BT Entertainment Centre' and contain 2 HDMI inputs so the remote can be used to control an attached streaming stick or DVD player through HDMI-CEC.

Both remotes connect to their respective boxes through Bluetooth and feature IR blasters in order to control the TVs power.

Comments, Questions and Feedback welcome.

…and finally

One thing which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread, but I feel deserves particular mention, is Asa's coding wizardry in giving us such a well considered and heavily customised piece of software in which to share our passion - above and beyond what many other forum admins would ever do.

He also has the accolade of updating and redesigning the site and everyone liking the new one. That's a very rare feat

This design is definitely the sweet spot. It's brilliantly simple but still with everything it needs. And the attention to detail with every element of design is superb.

I'm sure you know by now, because you posted there, but for anyone else confused that's what the "and finally" thread is all about.

Yeah. It just seems so unexpected. But we shouldn't dictate how Asa spends his free time. And I'm sure Rob will do an excellent job.

…and finally

This wasn't something I was expecting.

Thank you ever so much for all your hard work over the last 20 years and it hasn't gone unnoticed.

This forum will be missed by many but I'm sure that the TV Live Forum (or any alternative that may come out on top) will continue the lovely spirit of this site.

I for one will miss the look and feel of this site and any worthy successor would be foolish not to copy elements from this site.

Once again thanks for everything.

Good Morning Britain

Pete posted:

Yeah. If you look very closely you see that the perspective of the backdrop changes ever so slightly along that line.

yes but... the question Phil asked is how do they get the background right. do the two cameras perfectly align with the backdrop, or do they change the backdrop for that shot to one with two copies of st pauls?

One camera is angled slightly so Piers has to face slightly to his right. The same with Susanna but she has to face slightly to her left. This means that Piers's half of St. Pauls (or wherever the middle of the backdrop is) is at the edge of his shot, and the other half is at the edge of Susanna's shot. Join these together, and it looks like they're sitting next to each other. The backdrop stays the same (as far as I can see).

If the backdrop did change it would also be slightly delayed and would look odd transitioning from a wide to close-up shot

BBC Three channel to return in January 2022

It's not costing them much more to bring it back yet it'll increase their viewership. Seems like the best thing to do.

And whilst the future is online - we haven't reached that point yet and there is still a market for appointment to view TV.

Filling all of these slots on a linear TV channel is going to be more expensive, no question.

BBC Three has successfully managed to have one breakout hit every few months via iPlayer, with some genuinely fantastic shows being produced. Whether that's enough to fill the schedules is a different matter, and I think they're going to struggle enormously in that respect.

If the key 9pm slot is still new content, every weekday, two months after the channel relaunches, I'll be amazed. What I suspect will be the case, however, is that they eventually revert to archive content and imports, and that BBC Three becomes a sort of linear 'window' for iPlayer. So you end up with a scenario where BBC Three is 90% repeats, and BBC Four is 100% repeats, all of which is available on iPlayer. Baffling.

The BBC channels are all in a bit of a mess currently, and I don't personally see how this is going to help. At all.

BBC Three's budget has doubled though so there will be more new programmes!

And with added content from Radio 1 and newsbeat (not confirmed) they would have enough to fill the evening schedules.

BBC Three channel to return in January 2022

This feels like another backward step by the BBC. The future IS online...With all the controversy about the Licence Fee, I feel the BBC should be spending much more money online to start charging people for these programmes. Surely the BBC should be showing they are truly looking to the future while some basic TV remain. The need to still fund the BBC’s TV/Radio channels via a Licence Fee can then be looked at later down the road.

CBBC Channel

i think it's disgusting there wanting to revert it back as i think it's been a success they've brought back The Story of Tracy Beaker in that slot and these alot to it and kids enjoy watching shows like the next step from the beginning and that etc... and CITV also go till 9pm and come on who really cares about BBC3 anymore cause i don't not as a tv channel you might well say they only got rid of it to me bit of money and now they want to bring it back but wait till tv license goes then it be gone again i bet ya

Bringing it back isn't costing much money at all and BBC3 is far more popular than you are making it out to be. It's not the end of the world having CBBC finish at 7. It always used to and no-one complained.

Just because you prefer CBBC to BBC3 doesn't mean that the other has no right existing. It's not like CBBC is being replaced entirely. Children can still use the iPlayer.

Giving BBC3 broadcast space will help more people to learn about its content and increase its viewership.

Schools return next week but not all on Monday

Only in England. Wales and Scotland are phasing their returns much more gradually over the next month.

Right. That makes sense.
