BBC World News: Reith look onwards

Of course they did try this with the 1999/2000 rebrand when the regions went corporate. Over the shoulder graphics and outcues were just “BBC News” but this was soon relaxed.

Did 'UK Today' use the standard BBC News out-cue or did it use the original region the story was cut for?

I know Midlands Today have had packages on air with 'BBC Points West' at the end, and in one case BBC Points West astons, and PW have aired a Midlands Today out-cue - I think it was the same package - maybe the reports weren't named correctly?

Referring to this video, the outro of UK Today is just a replay of the intro of the programme. There’s no copyright messages or any sort of unique branding identification...

BBC News (UK) presentation - Reith launch onwards

chris posted:
I've given the new look the benefit of a week. There are many things I like, including the font and slick animations, but there are lots of issues and inconsistencies. Apologies for the essay, but here’s my take.

Font consistency

I quite like the font and it does make BBC News look distinctive, but there’s a frustrating lack of consistency. To name just a few: ‘Live’ in Business Live is Serif, ‘Live’ in Afternoon Live is Sans Serif, the Breakfast title clock is Serif, the permanent on-screen clock is Sans Serif. ‘Business’ in Business Live is Sans Serif, yet on the news channel is Serif. Pick a format and stick with it please.

Talking about inconsistency - the thing I hated the most about the Reith implementation is the inconsistency of the branding for generic bulletins.

You see, before the graphics refresh you can see the BBC News globe being featured in a lot of graphics elements including promos, breaking news sting, the background for two way boxes and pushbacks...

Ever since the refresh, all the promos, breaking news stings, continuity menus etc has been featuring the new “wipes” graphical elements... Heck, the intro for the generic bulletins (aka the “main intro” and the TV screens still adopts the globe branding... The whole branding image doesn’t seems keep in sync together ever since the refresh and for a person with OCD in TV Presentation like me, this bugs me a lot!

The BBC should either find a way to add the globe branding back into the graphical elements to keep the branding image in sync - or knock on Lambie-Nairn‘s door and start designing new titles for generic bulletins featuring the “wipes” design.

BBC World News: Reith look onwards

New World News Today intro in Reith - note that the intro did not adopt the new regional news intro template and still adopts the old 2008 style.

Breaking News mode studio setup

Flipper glitch during breaking news - the flipper was removed later 5 minutes into the programme.

Can’t they just change these SD feeds to 16:9 letterboxed? That way we all can enjoy full 16:9 graphics no matter if you’re a HD or SD viewer...

The implementation of programme tags is a bit inconsistent especially for World. For instance, during the recorded programmings like Our World or Reporters, they won’t have the tag on. Not to mention that World Business Report doesn’t have a tag too.

Yes it’s definitely darker and it’s on both World and NC. I think it’s probably part of some pre-preparation work before Reith launches?

New BBC corporate font: BBC Reith

Does anyone have a clue on when exactly Reith will be rolled out on Monday? Probably 12AM (to coincide with overnight simulcasts) or 6AM?

Whatever they do I hope they can roll out the graphics on NC and WN at the same time so to maintain consistency... and let’s hope on WN Red Bee Pres will be having the new tickers ready at the same time with the galleries in BH. Or else we will be seeing mismatches where we will be seeing new graphics at TOTH but back to the old during the BOTH filler programmes...

On a side note the graphics on Sport Today have been Reithed throughout the whole programme. So expect the new graphics on Sportsday tonight on the NC.

BBC World News | 30th October 2017 Onwards

I’m sorry if someone have already mentioned it.., but since when did the 1730BST Friday editions of World Business Report is presented from the New York Office(but directed in London) but not from Studio B? I was just watching WN and was amused when the continuity announcer said “...From New York - World Business Report”.

New BBC corporate font: BBC Reith

Will there be new titles for the generic bulletins when Reith rolls out? Or will they keep the current globe look originated from 2008, but with all other visual elements “Reithed”?🤔

Will BBC World News become available in UK?

Well, it's technically available in the UK... If your home has a satellite dish, you can point it to Hotbird 13B (13.0°E) or Astra 4A (4.8°E) and tune it to their respective frequency to receive the European feed of the channel. (Go to lyngsat.com for frequency details)... I'm not sure if the core feed is available on satellite or it's only available to the BBC privately.

So, the L3s vanished during Asia Business Report early this morning, and they've disappeared again now.

EDIT: Just as a post this, the strap returns. Clock and ticker still missing.

The programme name strap and ticker appear as normal on WN. Perhaps there is some problem with routing Studio C output to NC, where they are unable to show the strap elements properly for the domestic channel.
