BBC World News | 30th October 2017 Onwards

Since when did they start doing news reviews on weekends. Tanya Beckett is hosting the 0500 GMT half hour and they spent about the last ten minutes doing a news review which seemed to focus on Brexit. Maybe it’s a one off.

Having watched the North American feed recently, it is interesting the volume of adverts compared to the European version... online pet food, property websites etc.

I’d like to see a comparison of all the different feeds World News has. North America seems to deviate most from the schedule with different programs and likely special broadcasts for PBS simulcasts. Additionally there are programs advertised or teased during broadcasts or breaks that never air here. Some programs don’t air due to rights issues as well. I forgot but one entire series couldn’t air on World News because Al Jazeera America had the rights even though it was a BBC show and commission.

I don't have access to all the BBC World News regional variations due to geographical restrictions, but I've did something similar in experiment capturing one of the junctions leading to the BOTH programme of the Europe and Asia Pacific feed as shown below: (Watch in fullscreen!)

On the main screen you'll see the Europe SD feed taken from Eutelsat Hot Bird 13B, while on the top right you'll see the Asia Pacific HD feed from Intelsat 19. The video was taken from 2018/03/18 1730 GMT. At that timeslot, the Europe region had Politics Europe for the BOTH programming while other regions had Newsnight. You'll see how Red Bee Pres handle these regional variations in aspect of weather reports, commercial breaks, and recorded programmes in this video.

Isn't the second edition on PBS as well anyway?
So does that mean two galleries at BH are managing live programmes for World News at the same time?

HARDtalk was never broadcasted through any of the studio galleries in BH on WN. Instead, it was directly played out by Red Bee Pres, the playout gallery of WN.

Red Bee Pres has a system that allows regional variations by sending their respective feeds to the regions' satellites. In this case the North America region will take Studio C's feed for WNA and other regions will take Red Bee Pres playout for HARDtalk.

Newsroom rampage going on during Outside Source... England wins the penalty shootout against Colombia and the whole newsroom is in applaud, Ros Atkins has to drop a report mid-way and update the viewers on the World Cup. Rolling Eyes

What's wrong with the NC scheduling this evening??? At 17:45 an edition of "Meet the Author" was aired following sport bulletins at 17:30. Then at 18:43 another edition of "Meet the Author" was aired again following the end of the national bulletin/weekend news with Mishal Husain (Sportsday was cancelled due to the weekend news going late on BBC One). Coming up later at 19:45, there will be ANOTHER edition of "Meet the Author" again following Sportsday. Can't they air a short edition of The Travel Show or Click instead of Meet The Author???

BBC Breakfast - 2018 Refresh

Is it just me or the London Newsroom backdrop in Breakfast seems like a DTL blue screen backdrop rather than a live BH newsroom backdrop to me? There is always a black bar on top of the background and some guests occasionally have reflections from blue screens which seems to be resulted from bad chroma key adjustments from the studio director... Not to mention you can't hear background noises from the staff working in the newsroom.

BBC Breakfast

In honor of the current about-to-be-replaced Breakfast graphics, I've decided to make a montage of all titles and stings of the last edition of Breakfast using 2012 graphics: (I did not intentionally try to coincide with skyQhater's captures if anyone is offended by that Rolling Eyes (?))

(Apologies for the appearance of mouse cursor seen in various clips... I forgot to remove the mouse cursor in my capture software.)

Breakfast had been using this graphic since 10th April 2012, upon its move to Salford's MediaCityUK from TVC's Studio TC7. In the early stages, the time strap and lower-thirds were in the 2008 format:

...until 19th March 2013, they upgraded the time strap and lower-thirds to go in-line with the rest of the BBC News graphics (BBC News upgraded their graphics upon their move to BH). The titles and stings remain the same, which is why you still see the old and "regional produced" styled DOG in the titles till this day:

Darn it I can't stay up all day on Monday to watch and capture the debut of the new Breakfast graphics... It would be great if someone who is available can capture all the stings and titles and make a compilation of the new Breakfast package on Mon... Zipper

Huw Edwards now presenting the 6PM domestic bulletin from Studio C to "fill time" as it awaits for 1810 national bulletin... Pretty weird as normally they will use Studio E to fill time even when the national bulletin is not at 6PM sharp...

The BBC have gone more extreme than ITV with the cuts to the 6pm newshour during the World Cup.

That said though I didn't see tonight on Friday they basically just threw to the regions at 6.10pm on BBC1, so what happened on the News Channel? You'd think really they'd advise viewers wanting a more standard length bulletin to switch to the news channel, even if it does mean making the choice between the national and regional news.

Also on Friday North West Tonight aired a special on Facebook at 6.30pm. So frustrates me they have to use a third party site rather than being able to offer such content directly through the BBC website or iPlayer.

You made a point there about viewers have to make a choice between then national and regional news...

In my opinion, the best case scenario is that they put Sportsday on earlier than usual on NC during the regional news opt on BBC1, so that viewers can catch up with regional news without missing national news hours...

By the way, speaking of national news scheduling... This is taken from the EPG for BBC One today:

No World News Today at 2100BST tonight... it's replaced by a generic BBC World News simulcast with the NC. Studio A probably
doesn't have the templates/titles ready for WNT. Rolling Eyes
