What's so special about TVF is its members - Not all members are solely just "viewers" like me, some of them are possibly broadcast directors, editors, engineers... It's these members with insights in the TV broadcasting industry that make this community so fascinating.
( Honorable mentions because I always pay attention to your posts
: Media Boy, deejay
)
I don't post much in this forum but I certainly do visit this forum every single day... Whenever I'm bored traveling on the train or having lunch by myself, I'd log on to this site just to get up to date on whatever is happening on the channels... no matter if it's a graphics update, new theme, or a studio decamp on whatever TV channel. Occasionally someone who's working in the industry will dip in or even reply to my posts and it always excites me like I just talked to a celebrity
. Their technical discussions always made me appreciate more about this industry.
Even though I'm probably still the "new guy" here in TVF given so many long-time members here, but TVF will be in my memories forever. I look forward to seeing most of you in whatever forum we might migrate to in the future~

That whistling of the countdown theme at the start made me crack up...😂If I have a chance to be or work in a gallery I'm gonna be soooo annoying constantly humming the themes and stings...
The BBC World News Thread
Some of the gallery operation from this morning on BBC World News and BBC News.

Don't forget for some networks the morning news cycle starts as early as 3AM! (e.g NBC's Early Today is live as early as 3AM and runs in three 30 minutes segments till 4:30AM. Affiliates have to carry one of the segments in minimum. Some affiliates carry all three segments before leading in to local morning news).
NBC News, MSNBC, ABC News and others from across the pond
And considering 4am newscasts now seem to pretty much be the norm for many US affiliates how well exactly do they rate? I'd have thought anyone having to get up that early isn't likely to want to get up that bit earlier to squeeze in a bit of news before they leave for work.

(By the time I post this the news just broke hence you might can't find relevant news in websites like Google just yet...)
The BBC World News Thread
A little OT but BBC World News is now banned in China due to "unfair" and "untruthful" reporting - must be related to the CGTN ban in the UK... Here's the official webpage translated by Google:(By the time I post this the news just broke hence you might can't find relevant news in websites like Google just yet...)

For emphasizing the UK and US: " Across the Atlantic "
For reviving the WNT brand: " World News Today "
For reusing the "XXX Today" brand (e.g "Asia Today", "UK Today"): " US Today "
For emphasizing the on air talent like how U.S. cable news always do: " Katty & Christian "
I'd probably most prefer something similar as "Katty & Christian"... The spotlight of their show is the chemistry between Katty and Christian, plus, since their show sometimes covers news from other places apart from the US and UK, why not use a name that highlights the two talents, rather than a name that "restricts the scope" of the programme?

Reporting Scotland read out by continuity announcer
Back in the days with "UK Today" for News 24 and the sustaining feed, everything made much more sense with Breakfast opt outs... from the operational standpoint. Backup news bulletins for all the regions and nations! Sadly, the BBC doesn't have much funding freedom nowadays, the last thing they want to do is to waste money on programmes with low ratings.

In this case, why did BBC One Scotland decides to continue to opt out and find a CA to read the news rather than putting BBC London on air just like how other regions handle these situations? My assumption is probably the editors decided the content from BBC London is too irrelevant for Scotland, hence they just decide to ask a CA to fill time.

It's not uncommon for regions to have problems with providing breakfast bulletins, and the "standard" protocol for regions is to just take the "sustaining feed" (a.ka put BBC London up) to fill time.In this case, why did BBC One Scotland decides to continue to opt out and find a CA to read the news rather than putting BBC London on air just like how other regions handle these situations? Why is the dark background used in London when the newsroom background is used on the papers which is on after it. Is it just to emphasise it’s coming from London?
I think it’s just a matter of graphic templates - The Papers usually comes from studio E so its Vizrt template (along with other studio E programmes like Dateline London, NC bulletins...) have its background set as the newsroom background. This allows in cases like if they have to decamp to another studio, they can load the graphics template instantly(via the director’s touchscreen panel?) without setting up from scratch.
BBC News (UK) presentation - Reith launch onwards
Is it actually dark right now in Washington? Call me picky but it bugs me that it is darker than the UK background when it is 5 hours behind...

And if the NC decides to go to filler programmings at the BOTH, the presenter can introduce by saying “Now on BBC News, it’s time for XXX” after the headline summary sting, just like the overnights; if the NC decides to carry on with news at BOTH, the presenter can say “Now locally here in the UK...” after the headline summary sting, then carry on with the news until :57 to weather. It’s plain and simple! The Vizrt templates is already set up across studios A to E.

Why can’t they just bring the overnight format to daytime when NC is simulcasting with World? I think it works very well for both channels. A shorter headline sequence at the start, no awkward pauses at :27 to the weather...And if the NC decides to go to filler programmings at the BOTH, the presenter can introduce by saying “Now on BBC News, it’s time for XXX” after the headline summary sting, just like the overnights; if the NC decides to carry on with news at BOTH, the presenter can say “Now locally here in the UK...” after the headline summary sting, then carry on with the news until :57 to weather. NC takes C's output, WN Pres takes Studio L's output (the World Service TV "Ironing Board" studio), and Newsnight gets ready in E at 1830... All the studios have their own gallery.
On a side note, from previous studio decamping instances, I thought Focus on Africa had a priority and don't have to be "decamped". For example, on 15th Jan 2020, it was WN who decamped to studio A and didn't take FoA to cover the Donald Trump Impeachment Trial; while Focus on Africa gets to stay in the originating studio (Studio B at the time) and broadcast to African stations.
I remembered someone (I think deejay) mentioned FoA is sold to other African stations and it makes financial sense to let the programme stay in its originating studio. How come it's the other way around this time?
News Coverage of Glasgow Incident
From how I put it I'd guess Studio F was not on air and Media Boy was just finding a random unused studio so he can grab his phone and take a picture of the "channel routing path output monitor" and post on twitter.
