Sky News | General Discussion

Does Sky still own the former Sky Newscentre/studio at Osterley? If so could this be used for the new Sky-NBC international channel?

Yes they still have it, but the studio is long gone and has been repurposed.

I guess I should also ask: is there enough office space for NBC News and maybe Comcast Corporate office’s along with a medium size studio at Sky Central?

Absolutely not right now! Desk space is tight as it is, and the new building under construction (which isn't intended for broadcasting from) isn't due for completion until the end of 2021.

NBC’s quite fine with open offices used as studios. You’ve seen studio 4E. All they need is a decent clearance for lights and they can enclose a space. That 4E space proved to be extremely adaptable for the elections - simply by removing the glass, extending the video walls and adding some shiny flooring and proved a decent well built election area. In reality they turned the entire floor into the studio with interviews by the stairs and at desks. Comcast really put some love into the building restoring it to how it looked when it was built with things like exposed bricks and columns rather than covering up those elements.

As I said, there simply isn't the space there at the moment.

Noel on Strike

The first of series 7 has gone online.

Pretty godawful. I mean, at least they were trying new things, but what on earth were they thinking of with that set?!

BBC News (UK) presentation - Reith launch onwards

Overnight I noticed that the flipper kept crashing when it reappears after a sting and then they instantly remove it for a headline recap when it comes back on again it just sits there with the bullet point doing nothing

One thing I’d like to change with the flipper is the interactive headline, I’d just rename it online. There’s nothing interactive about it.

Also the twitter templates using the serif fonts to display someone’s tweet isn’t that clear.

Online is, by its very nature, interactive. You click, and the website serves. That's a level of interactivity, albeit just not in the sense of the old BBCi stuff.

BBC News (UK) presentation - Reith launch onwards

It's all pretty nice. Seems to take some degree of inspiration from DW News in Germany, with some of the animations and designs at least.

Not sure it's a font. More a custom logo.

Syon Lane definitely isn't under used - it's on the Hounslow loop line and gets regular services. And the walk from the station definitely isn't difficult.

No idea where that is, but it's definitely not Osterley.

ITV abandons the South Bank

Waterhouse Square, Holborn, London

A rather bleak looking place.

It's actually a really nice office, or at least it was when Skype were there. Not sure what the extent of the renovations that ITV have made are, but it doesn't look a million miles off how it previously was.
