What was your favorite regional ITV station growing up?

Carlton’s end credits to the last Blockbusters with an announcement about TYD’s return.
A poor act for a supposedly new channel dragging back a soap they’d initially discontinued from Thames and being stick with 1981 episodes.
Central had just started Shortland Street several weeks before. They could have gone for that instead.

ACP A Country Practice

TYD The Young Doctors
CL Carson’s Law
BH Blue Heelers

What was your favorite regional ITV station growing up?

That’s correct. Very little effort was made between TTT and YTV to synch up. YTV had been screening TYD Tues-Thurs at 3.25pm for most of 1992 with Mondays and Fridays being used for their own locally made shows and a Granada local show House Style. These Mon and Fri slots could have been used for more TYD to get nearer TTT and the locally made stuff could have been screened at 6.30pm in a couple of the nights YTV were using for Central’s thrice weekly Blockbusters, which TTT had to skip around 100 episodes.
I think S&D was only increased due to YTV choosing not to continue with Carson’s Law which had been at 1.30pm on Thursdays. ACP was moved from Mon and Tues to the old CL slot. I remember enquiring with YTV as to when CL would return and I was informed that YTV had reached the last episode of the episodes they had purchased (not the full run). Either period soaps weren’t too popular on YTV (possible reason for The Sullivans demise on YTV in 1982) or Neighbours was proving too popular daily at 1.30pm on BBC1 and denting YTV’s weekly 1.30pm shows. So S&D I feel was only increased to full the gap left by ACP replacing CL. YTV had the second largest amount of episodes of CL with UTV screening the whole series. TSW and TVS/ Channel screened a lesser amount. The removal of the 12-12.30 children’s programmes created more slots to be filled for the regions and I don’t think that YTV were prepared to increase Calendar Lunchtime Live from three a week to five just to fill the slots. Hence the need to resort to TYD which they’d successfully avoided screening since Central acquiring it in January 1982.
