BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

I've just heard Tanya Beckett on BBC World News herald the G20's decision to spend $1 trillion on sorting out the global economy as though she were anouncing the arrival of the 21.34 at Slough station.

The Countdown creates a wonderful sense of anticipation and whilst not every lead story may be a historic world-order changing moment, I would have thought that the presenter should summon up a bit more excitement in their voice on the hour. They may be sick to death of reading the thing out every 15 minutes but the viewer may well only have tuned in to hear it once.

I approve of the BBC's dignified approach to newsreading and do not want anything like the hysteria that introduces many CNN bulletins, for example, but let's do it with a bit more gusto.

Incidentally, Tanya is not the only culprit in my opinion.
