Personally I would've prefer something like this for the BAFTAs. I'm sure I'm not the only person who had more of an interest in things happening closer to home.
And the theme tune sounded like something I'd made by adding random notes in every so often. I would have been more at home on American Nightly News than ITV Breakfast

And BBC Breakfast didn't even have it as their top story. I'll be honest, I think they'll use anything as an excuse not to go to the bother of reporting real news and booking good interviews.

That was more dramatic than the general election opening. If they do something similar for the US election then people will just turn straight over, because it has no relevance to them.

The content was over the top on the oscars, but on another note I thought the music was quite nice and different and that voicover was quite good at the TOTH as it sounded much more informative. It would be nice to hear that music again sometime.

BBC Breakfast did give the oscars a great deal of coverage, maybe not at 6am, but it was there all over the programme.

I thought it was quite nice to see them try something different. At least it fits in with the "American style" they're going for.

I do wonder though, how many variations of the theme might they have that we just haven't heard? US breakfast shows seem to have dozens of different theme tunes for different segments and moods.

I don't really care about the Oscars, full of hot air. I want the real world, not to watch rich people congratulate each other, and Im not jealous, honest.

The split screen was also given an Oscars-y makeover.

Are they really still going for that. They seem to be back at Daybreak format with a bit more news now.
Personally I think they should go back to day 1. Not everyone liked it but hey, if they want a serious chance they need to be different to BBC Breakfast.

What a mess, if someone had posted that in the Gallery it would had 1 or 2 stars

I've never seen anything quite like it. A grand fanfare, spotlights and flashing lights, flashy graphics, dramatic voiceover.

Talk about OTT. As a previous commenter said, It's a shame that they deemed it suitable to put not as much effort into the BAFTA's. The Oscars maybe a more prestigious ceremony but given we're not in America then surely a special feature would be more than enough rather than all of this nonsense.

It's quite alright Piers even admitted it was over the top, as they kept on mentioning the fact that they had the 'American' voice-over give introductions when coming back from a break and Piers trying to impersonate it.

You lot are never satisfied are you!

I'm the first to complain about GMB being too entertainment focused but I'll give any breakfast show a free pass on Oscar day - and there is no harm in them having a show every now and then which completely breaks away from the day to day drudgery of the usual news agenda.

The Oscars have been a part of breakfast TV in the UK for decades and coverage on breakfast TV is the main way people will view them. It's also a unique opportunity for the shows to get fairly big stars live on their show on a morning when they might actually be relevant. Despite never really being a movie fan and always treating Hollywood with the contempt is deserves I used to love The Big Breakfast Oscar specials and since their demise the coverage on Breakfast or the ITV breakfast show of the day is often the closest either programme ever get to a somewhat unscripted edition where news can take a back seat and it's all about trying to grab that two minute chat with the star of the night.

The only thing that I thought was good was the use of the lighting fading on. I think they should do that every morning (excl. fancy lighting in performance area) as I feel it creates a nice feeling of the sun rising (sort of).
