Radio 4's Paddy O'Connell again reporting for BBC South East Today, over pub closures, this evening.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but is this simply because he's freelance, or is he 'on hire' from one part of BBC News to another?

Rob Smith has been presenting the main SET bulletin solo this week with Polly Evans due to come back on Thursday. It seems that as Polly suddenly went absent, there isn't cover available in this instance.

However John Young covered for Rob last week, in what was probably booked leave.

Seems to be quite a bit of flying solo in recent months. We all know SET love playing around with presenters. So perhaps a return to single headed?! Who knows.

I wonder if it is budget cuts? Look East (Norwich) make much more use of single headed presentation now especially if it seems someone is off for a day or two rather than a week.

Oh dear Chrissy Reid mic was still live at the end of today's teatime bulletin. You could hear she saying to Rachel...''now I need to know all about what happened!''

All completely innocent I am sure. The bulletin has made it onto the iplayer if anyone fancies watching.

I find it odd that SET have the budget for Rachel to come in on a Sunday, while the others rely on the regional weather hubs.

London don't always bother using the hub forecast. Sometimes just read by presenter. When the do use hub they sometimes give it less than 30 seconds. Pointless.

The London presenter read is still prepared by the hub forecaster, along with the graphics.

That's a fair point but the duration of the forecast can make it pointless.
