In many ways it's been the silent relaunch and outside of those of us who read the media pages I doubt people who don't watch the bulletin aren't really aware of it. I'd expect a promo campaign will follow later this year though.

ITV took the view really they had nothing to lose as they had an award winning bulletin which just wasn't moving in the ratings, and though it's a shame they didn't build on that and at least keep Julie on as a co-host for Tom rather than understudy, I do think it's a worthy addition to the ITV News portfolio, even if it a shame it's at the expense of the old News at Ten.

I just wish Julie still had a more promient role, even if it was continuing to be Mary's main understudy on the Evening News and perhaps becoming the regular host of the Sunday bulletins too.

In other news the BBC News at Ten is to get a prominently blue colour scheme when it relaunches tomorrow.

Is there a specific tweet that refrences this?

From going on past relaunch's the set and titles for all bulletins has been updated nearly every 3 years. The last one was in January 2013. I'm gonna put it out there and say the Lunchtime, Evening and NaT programmes might possibly get an update of some sort.

I'm having difficulty figuring out when ITV News went HD? I know BBC News at 10 went HD (briefly) during the Olympics in 2012 and permanently when they moved to NBH.

The HD upgrade of the packages has only been happening recently. The studio has certainly been HD at least since this set.

ITV News went HD in phases. The ITN studio went HD before BBC News moved to NBH (which allowed them to run HD as standard), however ITV News's location newsgathering and editing facilities remained SD (so all non-studio content was unconverted) for quite a while.

The same approach was used when Daybreak launched in HD - which was 2010ish - (though Daybreak had one HD edit and a small-scale HD playout chain for HD edits they weren't used for most production which remained unconverted SD)

Can't remember the date when ITV News went HD in studio though (I'm not a regular viewer).

When BBC News went HD in NBH they went HD in a pretty big way (HD location shooting, HD editing and playout, HD live shots etc.. Though still with a reasonable amount of SD up conversion, the BBC were working within largely HD infrastructure after the move.)

Moving BBC News HD (it wasn't just the Ten) for the Olympics required three control rooms (one in the Lund Point studio - which was HD), a main block combining gallery (again HD) at TV Centre, and the SD regular News control room (which was unconverted and routed through the combining gallery). Effectively they had three directors and three galleries working together to ensure all the Olympic content remained HD in the bulletins (where possible)

I think Breakfast went HD before the rest of BBC News - as I think they were HD as soon as they moved to Salford (so they were HD by the Olympics - where they didn't use the three-gallery approach - and presented from the BBC Sport studio, with cameras from the BBC Sport studio individually fed back to the control room in Salford and cut remotely, in the same way NBC Today does when on location at the Olympics)

Yes - seeing the yellow and black set in glorious high definition was a little strange at first - it did (slightly) improve the look of it.

I remember thinking it looked very odd on close-up shots of the presenters because the CGI background wasn't out of focus, it was pin-sharp.

Yes - looking back in that thread, it does look a bit funny (especially with the blurry, pixellated maps in the background too). The current design is far superior.
