Quite surprised it is being given such prominent coverage here considering it was established relatively quickly that everyone had been evacuated safely and there has been no indication of any suspicious cause. I do wonder if the quite amazing footage has swayed producers and push the story further up the agenda than perhaps it should be.

That's television news? Arguably Lee Rigby would not have received such unprecedented coverage without the footage. Moving pictures make a great story.

I think this is the main story because it's not everyday you get a major hotel fire in a busy city... Shocked

The sound quality on Talking Movies - Tom Brook's pieces to camera, anyway - always seems so awful, with the sibilants being all messed up. It's been like that for years.

It annoys me, too, that his pieces to camera seem to be shot at 60fps and converted. Makes it look it was shot on cheap equipment (maybe it was). He is based in the US, of course, and I don't know whether Talking Movies is repackaged for other broadcasters.

It's a Star Wars special on at the moment, replete with shots from the films - which range wildly in quality from DVD to VHS quality, and from widescreen to 4:3, with or without dodgy frame rate conversion... very messy.

It's made for BBC World News rather than The Film Review which is made for the BBC News channel.

Katherine Carpenter of BBC London News reporting live from the New Year's Day parade on the News Channel. Makes sense to double up in this way, I suppose.

Yes we've not had Talking Movies on BBC News regularly for a long time. I wasn't aware it was still being made for BBC World News.

It's got to be at least 2006 since it was last on the BBC News channel/News 24, right?

Blimey, didn't think it'd been that long since I'd seen it. Doesn't time fly when you... well, get old...

Minor change but the #BBCpapers strap now remains on screen when the name astons animate on and off, rather than wiping off when the name aston is removed. Noticed this now for a few weeks.

Quite common for regional reporters to cover news events on the NC. During the recent floods, reporters from Look North Yorkshire and Look North NE&C did lives before network reporters turned up.

On the other hand, both Katharine Carpenter and Emilia Papadopoulos from BBC London have done NC reporting shifts and been on the Derbyshire show.

This has only taken the best part of three years to happen, well done BBC News.

I Googled this specifically for productions in the US made for networks/show over seas that broadcast in 50i. According to a videographer'shooting in 50i in the North America some problems with lighting as the lights will cause a flickering effect on the video as our electricity is 60hz. From what I've seen from the few instances of Talking Movies many parts of the episode include interviews where most likely everything is set up by the distributor - where the broadcaster probably doesn't have much control over the set which is used by other shows.
