Makes me wonder if the idea of filming a live action Christmas ident was deemed too expensive or they reckoned nobody would appreciate their... unique style.
Much prefer this style of ident - like the clock it's simple but works well and the fact the logo doesn't appear is far less of an issue than in the idents as the blocks are easier to see.
I'm sure they could also have idents using the blocks in the real world, whether it's the 9 blocks (but not forming the 4) or multiple smaller blocks (making up a Christmas Tree for example) I think they'd work rather well. That said though keeping them in the relatively simple break bumper style means the blocks are the stars of the idents, unlike the current batch where I doubt most people even notice them.

I much prefer the more simple all cgi idents compared to the weird and slightly creepy live action idents they have. Would be happy if they made a few more cgi idents and got rid of the others. With the cgi blocks, they can do anything, and even when done very subtly, like the snowman ident, its still clear what it is.
Along with 8% of men, I'm red-green colourblind. I can see the logo in Channel 4's version quite clearly, but I can barely see it at all in o8tom's version. I wonder if the shades (and the intensity of the shades) were chosen with this in mind?

Channel 4's two idents - with an especially long version of Snowman - are

The closest I've seen the blocks come to forming the original logo...
Is the blocks from the 4 racing trailer? That works really well imo. It shows the logo for a split second, something that could have been done with the others.
