Interesting. The show has a cult following but he's clearly being placed there as a pilot to see how a US audience reacts to him. If it works, he'll be the next big UK export. A potentially huge move for him.

I definitely would not put ABC World News Now in the same category as "The Daily Show" at all. The Daily Show is a satirical comedy show. WNN is basically a newscast with a looser format with some humor around the edges. There has to be a reason why Richard is there and ABC may be looking at him for a larger role for something. I know of Richard, but I wasnt aware that he had a straight news background. I just know him from hosting and presenting. The last thing being that Painting Challenge show and that dreadful Pensioner Olympics competition. So I expect this is a trial for something on the ABC network. There are certainly feelers about because this is interesting move that frankly is very unusual.

It's basically "The Daily Show" but with the 80/20 funny-to-serious ratio flipped the other way... and it's not an "appointment" per se - he's just filling in.

Incorrect on the Daily Show comparison. It's a not as serious morning bulletin. Think of it as a Mix of "The Big Breakfast" and BBC Breakfast. World News Now is also the lead in for the more serious "America This Morning".

OK, perhaps a little wide-of-the-mark - my point (at least in the case of WNN) was it's a newscast that happens to contain properly-scripted jokes

Here is what I thought was a interesting article. Looking at all the troubles the NBC NEWS division has had over the past couple of years, they have seemingly righted the ship and are doing well. I found a couple of paragraphs toward the end of the article very interesting. Particularly in the writers assessment of GMA vs TODAY news acumen when a big story breaks. Who can pivot faster and easier for coverage. Of the two broadcasts, my money is always on TODAY for hard news rather than the overly fluffy format and presenters at GMA. Also an interesting bit about the evening newscasts holding their own in this day and age with greying audiences.

How strange that while Today has made improvements, CBS This Morning, is gaining more viewers while still being in 3rd place.
And how is it that CBS News isn't named on this thread?

The closing of the LA Unified School district, which is the second largest, due to a now proven false hoax email which stated that their would be an attack at multiple unspecified schools was a big story. Brian Williams anchored coverage for MSNBC from about 11AM - 2PM interviewing guests and former FBI and DHS officials familiar with situations like these while at times dipping into KNBC coverage from time to time. There was a major scheduled press conference at 1PM ET for an NBC News Special Report where he told viewers on MSNBC and listening on SiriusXM of the up coming special report where there will be a pause and you'll here the "chimes of death" and they'll be live nationwide. Unfortunately the press conference started a with out a warning (normally someone will come up and say it will start in two minutes) so he welcomed NBC viewers while the mayor started speaking.

Because it was a simulcast on NBC & MSNBC the MSNBC logo doesn't quite look right compared to the network's logo. This is only the second event in recent memory where MSNBC carried the network. The last time was with the Boston Marathon bombings where there were significant overnight developments and later that day around noon.

Here's what appeared on MSNBC.

While this is the standard network look seen last week.
