Absolutely no need for music under Emily Maitless's summary of last night's events in the opening few minutes of Newsnight. Poor, tacky decision.

In Ireland both RTE One and RTE News Now will both be simulcasting an extended RTE 9 O'Clock News bulletin that will end at 9:40pm. After that is over; Prime Time will have a special programme airing from 9:45pm until 10:20pm.

RTE News Now is available to stream worldwide on the RTE website at this link.

The ending was at least silent.

Not the only thing that could have been better with this special Newsnight - on interviewer appeared to be being interrupted with Emily Maitlis but we couldn't hear her, a later one was interrupted but was awkward because of the satellite delay. She then she forgot she had a microphone in her hand. It all ended rather abruptly too, I think they would have done better with an hour.

I disagree - it's the Newsnight vamp and was only played for less than 30 seconds before the opening titles. It's no different to the BBC News bulletin at 6pm using the usual headline vamp. Both of which are fairly neutral pieces of music.

Going by Paul's periscope, the crew in the car are in a right hand drive car, so came over on the ferry or Eurotunnel overnight.

The BBC News at Six has been a well produced bulletin.

Indeed, excellent bulletin, I can't recall there ever being a proper Six on the weekend complete with titles.

It was brilliant, Huw coped brilliantly with relaying the Breaking News and interviewing and translating the witnesses speaking French.

And he adopted Tom Bradbry's 'conversational tone' for some of the links too. (Not, that that's any endorsement of the former's style !)

Huw did well translating the French. I almost thought it was going to be an uncomfortable clanger and the interviewee hadn't been told he had to speak English, particularly as his friend was speaking English. Assuming Huw also speaks Welsh he must be a man of many languages.
