They're deluding themselves ! Takes about 10 seconds in my local filling station and supermarket. Their present system is totally non secure. They take the card away, (advice here has always been NEVER let the card out of your sight) and comeback with the slip to sign and the card (plus in restaurants some nonsense about pre authorising a 15% commission charge (aka tip)). You then sign the slip, and add the optional tip amount, but they are not in the least bit interested in watching you do it, and therefore verifying you are actually the owner of the card. Unbelievable !

It's being rolled out. I believe the deadline is the end of the year. I think pins will be the next stage - I've activated them but never been prompted.
Anyway didn't this thread have pictures of helicopters in it:
Here's an image from Wikipedia of WBAL's helicopter SkyTeam 11
And WJZ's Sky Eye Chopper 13 from Flickr..
Click pictures for the source.

Well, do people over there still use the telly for their travel news ? Over here we've all switched to Google
Traffic
I wouldnt say people use Tv exclusively for traffic. Its multimedia use for traffic data. TV, RADIO and APPS. So really its a combo of 24hr news radio, Local News channels, Satellite Radio, Traffic Apps like Google and Waze, etc . If are in your house and the news is on.... they usually update the traffic if you are waiting for family to get home or if you are getting dressed to leave. Anywere you are. Chicago tv/radio have always offer travel times for decades before Google and web-based traffic services.
As far as a Chip/Pin, thats changing, but the US is much larger country than rolling it out over a geographically smaller countries and it takes a while to implement. I will get getting mine soon. And I will be using a pin. Most of the large retailers have the terminals. They should already be using them as the deadline has passed. I would expect full chip/pin in a few years.
7SkyForce Ralph Rayburn mentioned their were flying past an antenna farm. I guess that was causing some type of interference. Kinda strange. But that guy was driving all over the place and the choppers were bound to fly past dead/patchy spots. There is big difference in the smoothness of coverage by the LA stations for these changes, mainly because they are so frequent their and their choppers/reporters are used to keeping up and flying at a good angles. I noticed that WFOR was on a delay and WSVN's Ralph Rayburn kept saying be warned it was live. Even if it was on 10 sec delay, i dont think that would have been a major deal, that would certainly give them time to cut away in the event they needed to.
Ahh right I see. I saw you mention that but didn't make the connection. Do the LA stations have multiple receive antennas or are they just sending back to single points for each station?
I remember people saying Sky and the BBC etc have multiple receive sites across London and maybe a few other major cities?

LA stations have several receive sites due to the terrain. However as Florida is mainly flat I don't think they would need more than one or two to adequately cover their market.
In the UK I think the general practice is to receive in an SNG truck as if it were a radio camera and uplink to satellite in the conventional way.
There may be fixed receivers in London but not elsewhere. The reason for having multiple receivers is because they can also be used for cameras on the ground. From a helicopter you're going to have line of sight to the top of any tall building.
