I wonder what headaches that has caused with regards to daytime lighting. There'll also be a mysteriously transposed tower block in the distance (usually seen looming over the car lot, I think) to confuse observant viewers.

I can see a massive fire storyline coming on in order to destroy the old set.

How did they handle it in Corrie? I don't watch it;

I think they just introduced new bits of the set at a time. It was even pointed out on here I think how you could see which parts of the exterior were new and which parts were the old set.

I look forward to eschewing the occasionally dull EastEnders storylines to hunt for set discrepancies.

My wife will be pleased.

The last fire meant they could update the Queen Vic while still using the active set. Didn't Corrie just switch from one to t'other without a fuss?

Ah, that makes sense mdtauk - I was a little confused as the new lot is quite a bit smaller than the existing one but I wasn't accounting for the non-contiguous elements that could go anywhere.

It looks like they have removed public access to the files now, but one thing I thought was interesting was that because they are rotating the set by 90 degrees they will have to hide the gable ends of the existing studio buildings - creating a whole new vista which will be interesting to shoehorn in!

I wonder if when this is approved / construction begins that we will have the occasional reference to the Walford Brewery thrown in...

No doubt this Walford Brewery will be a micro-brewery with real ales, and other "hipstery" beverages. These changes will be easy enough to explain away with the amount of building work and construction going on in London.

No prizes for guessing I am looking forward to seeing how they explain the change between the Underground and Overground stations. Both are believable, for the east end, but it doesn't happen often that underground stations go disused, not to mention the change in trains going over the bridges.

Shoreditch springs to mind as one of the few examples, where the 'underground' tube station was closed in 2006 and replaced with the Overground Shoreditch High Street station. If I recall correctly London Overground are set to be building some new stations/line in the next few years, so maybe Walford overground will be 'included' in this expansion.

I believe TfL are planning to extend one of their London Overground lines from Barking down to the Riverside which would see new stations being built.

In East London, the Overground has the East London line extension from Whitechapel to Highbury & Islington with new stations opened in 2010 between W'chapel and Dalston Junction and replaced Abellio Greater Anglia on some lines out of Liverpool Street.

The Overground already meets the District line (of which Walford is fictionally on) at Whitechapel.

I stand corrected. Very Happy I know there are a few stations which are within walking distance between Over and Underground. So in the show, they could just close the Underground station and open the Overground one. Or they could just talk about relocating the Underground station perhaps, and this could be one of the disconnected set pieces.

If they had any spare "arches" they could have done a station like Hoxton, which is a nice bit of architecture IMO.

I wonder what they will call the station... Overground Stations tend to feature the Station name in 3D lit letters, so having a bright orange "W A L F O R D" could be cool.

My local London Overground station doesn't have the flash 3D fit letters, instead going for New Johnston with an orange background.
