Mustard TV are showing tonight's Norwich friendly 'delayed' due to three satellite uplink failures.

That's a shame but it's fantastic news Mustard are trying this kind of thing, I identified pre-season friendlies of big local clubs as something local TV could attempt to achieve quite a while ago, this along with youth team, ladies games etc should be quite obtainable and give the impression these channels are clearly linked to the big local sides even though anything meaningfully competitive for first teams games is going to be impossible to obtain rights too.

Does anyone know what the fail was?

Presumably the match was being covered for overseas broadcast, and Mustard were taking a down-link off this? Otherwise, why satellite? Carrow Road must be line-of sight to Arcahn'ts building in the City Centre, and less than a mile too!

Indeed, Norwich matches used to be microwave linked to Anglia House, which is just down the road, for onward distribution, even if it was BBC covering the match.

That said, a satellite uplink sounds a bit "pro" for these channels. I wonder if they were actually using 4 G and hadn't taken into account what would happen to the bandwidth available once you get a few thousand people turn up...

I'm near Edgbaston today, where the 4G reception is really poor.

A simple but novel idea from Made In Cardiff called Busking... basically singers/musicians performing on the streets of Cardiff.

Nottingham Trent University has taken over Confetti Media, both of whom are members of the consortium behind Notts TV:

How much would such a system cost to be installed? Would it be a worthwhile investment?

Wrong number of 0s for Local TV levels of usage. Plus you have to licence microwave channels too. Plus you'd then need to do something with the received signal.

I noted some amazing responseS to Mustard being unable to show the Norwich match live - lots of angry people, including one who wanted the Managing Director to resign, and another who seemed to think Mustard TV didn't have the rights to show it live and were lying the whole time! However, there were a fair number of people who stuck up for them too.

Following on from this, it's interesting to see which local TV channels have gained any following on social media - That's Manchester/Oxford/Solent have a tiny following, whilst Big Centre TV and Sheffield Live have a bigger following but aren't particularly active. Notts TV, Mustard and the STV local channels have the greatest number of likes on Facebook (STV Glasgow dwarfing them all at around 40,000!), and people actually commenting on stories they post - nice to see people value local TV!
