Today's programme looks like it came from, what looks to be, the Media Cafe at NBH. Am I correct saying this?

It did indeed come from the Media Cafe, at the far end, it looks like they partitioned it off in the middle, so the other part of the cafe could trade as normal.

Steve, I think it's supposed to be a filler for the BBC Two morning schedule, the same as the 11:00-12:00 hour, rather than a cheap option for the NC. I think it probably costs more than rolling news, and it is apparently funded by the NC budget.

If there are important developments that can't be handled on this programme, the NC always has the option to simulcast WN.

Yes, I'm aware that the programme's primary purpose is to be a cheap BBC 2 show, but that doesn't necessarily make it appropriate as a News Channel morning show.

The World simulcast option is a reasonable one, assuming the developing news is of interest to a worldwide audience.

Have we established how the ratings compare to a straight News Channel simulcast?

I dont usually get to watch at that time of day so its never been an issue for me, but surely if there is a major breaking news story during Derbyshire there is the option for NC to break away with the presenter who did the 9am bulletin?

As for replacing Derbyshire with World News Simulcasts... If Derbyshire is not appropriate as a NC morning show then how would a WN simulcast be appropriate? Surely both have the same problem of being unable to go rolling with UK news? Most World viewers dont give a damn about UK politics or who has been murdered in some obscure British town.

If NC keeps simulcasting more and more international content surely it would be a better cost saving for the BBC to just replace it with a UK region specific version of BBC World News with UK specific news bulletins in the back half hours with the ability to break into rolling news mode on the rare occasions that is needed.

I personally think that they need to pre-record all these overblown #VictoriaLIVE debates and ditch them whenever they need to prioritise a more pertinent story.

Apparently today's was about mental health. The only reason I know is that I caught the promo during Breakfast. Naga introduced the promo saying "The Victoria Derbyshire programme is on at 9.15 on BBC Two, here's Victoria with a preview."

Cut to Victoria, looking slightly hurt, who opens with "...AND the BBC News Channel, by the way."

LOL.

Why would anyone watch it on BBC NC when BBC Two is literally one button press away?
I changed my mind... Simulcasts between BBC channels aired in the same market should be banned because they are utterly pointless... just change the damn channel.

I wonder if VD and Compton didn't want their precious misery debate to not only go out on the NC?

It would have been the perfect opportunity to show the golf instead.

Now there is a good point - if they can staff Studio E for that 9am bulletin, is there actually a cost saving in simulcasting VicD?

Which brings us to the question just what is the point of the program -also if it is not being shown on BBC2 (i.e Golf last Thursday/Friday and 1st Practice for F1 Grand Prix in Hungary this Friday) and then it shouldn't be shown on the NC Either-in short it should cut both ways.

The staffing for Studio E at 9 might well be staff doing say the 1 later and therefore using the time for prep instead or perhaps are being shared with BBC World. My guess is rotas perhaps have been swapped around to fit the new schedules e.g. using the team that perhaps did 0830 to 0900 to do 0900 to 0915 instead. It might also be that for the fifteen minute slot they've reduced staffing slightly - though not sure that would be possible as I'm sure people on here have said BBC News often run their galleries on fewer staff than Sky and ITN generally do.

I might work better if it was 45 mins on BBC1 rather than 90 mins across two channels.

She'd have to start by saying "Hello and Good morning" though.
