While I would like them to move away from the office format, this refresh is definitely an improvement and allows the set to look more spacious and less officey.... Dark? Possibly, but as someone else said, Radio 1 has this sort of feel as well. I do like the new camera angle against the door.

I do believe they do not want to spend too much on the budget with the lights so maybe that's why its dark.
Very humorous comment, however, sets in TV studios would look awful on camera and in-person without proper lighting (see some of the Local TV stations). I don't think its budgetary reasons for the setting the mood. (No professional studio/broadcaster would skip on lighting)
Not sure about the off-brand CBBC lettering on the wall.
That style is very much 'in' at the moment. I've noticed a few bars, coffee houses and shops that use that sort of lettering for their main sign above the door even though their branding on menus, website etc is completely different.
They're definitely making use of the extra space, there's a lot more variety for links and phone in segments rather than stuck behind the desk. Should have been like this from 2007 (or at least when they moved to a bigger studio in 2009)

I'm glad of this. I hope they don't cram guests up around the back of the desk like they used to - barstools around the front would be good, or perhaps a sofa if the desk could be easily moved.
I took a look at the CBBC Official Chart Show on iPlayer that was mentioned on here the other week, and I know I'm not the target audience but it did not seem good! There was a lot of prancing around the 'world famous (?!?!)' Live Lounge and cutting to different cameras when doing a simple piece to camera, and it seemed throughout that the chart (and only the top 10 at that) was very much in the way of things, with most of the songs cut down, and then the Number 1 played in full. This was then intermixed with a celebrity guest who is asked questions by CBBC viewers in another studio/set that Radio 1 use (although they use it for their visual productions and I think you'd be hard pressed to produce an actual radio programme entirely from there), before the CBBC chart presenter invades the studio Radio 1 actually use in time for the reveal of the Number 1.
The most recent episode is slightly different due to no-one being at Radio 1 as they were all at the Big Weekend, with this meaning there also wasn't an Official Chart show on the Radio. As a result of this they got to prance around the studio normally used for the chart rather than the live lounge, and they also crossed to Scott Mills in Norwich a few times, with Mills revealing the Number 1 in what seemed to be a pre-recorded link!
Ultimately, it all just seemed a bit random. There was no real structure to what went on, instead just a mix of prancing around the live lounge/talking about Radio 1/talking to guest/prancing around live lounge/playing the actual chart/talking about Radio 1/prancing around the live lounge. I can't see it lasting.
There was a rumour that once the Sunday chart ends in a few months, the slot on Radio 1 could perhaps become a CBBC show, with Cellach Spellman rumoured to take over the show. This could be a forerunner to that.

Yes unfortunately I'd heard the same rumour! Is there any overlap between CBBC's target audience and Radio 1's?

Do we not like Cel? Lol. I don't mind him. The hosts Shannon and Chris who present shout out Saturday are good together. Like them as hosts. Not sure about the rest. On a side note I find it funny that shout out Saturday shortened is SOS kind of sums it up really.
I have not heard that rumour but they have commission the chart show in two half's. One now and one in September. I guess the show would move to a Friday. Not sure if a separate show for cbbc on radio 1 will happen.
In terms of the office it's really nice they move. I guess the remote cams are a goner now. Kind of glad! Some have said that the office looks a bit girly which is not great when older boys of the age range are not watching. I do like the new look but still think it's missing something. I never got why they don't merge the cbbc and Newsround set into one then change the colours for who's using it. Like bbc news do in studio b? Would give them more room.
I also find it funny how they trying to grow up a bit but end up with a childish brand.

I completely agree, though I think Shannon and their other presenter Katie can be stale at times and it seems a bit awkward. They have another host- Karim, and I think he's stale sometimes too. Chris left CBBC a few months back but obviously realised it was an ill decision and now returns whenever he can.
