This feature from the lunchtime bulletin has a loud background noise as if the motorised cameras need some WD40. Otherwise, the guest appears to be more broadcast ready than Baffoe!

This documentary about San Francisco's KRON4 News is interesting in terms of what can be achieved on a tight budget.

Granted, they're not the best station in San Francisco but, having seen just how much of a shoestring they work on, I have a new-found respect for them. Their reporters shoot their own stuff and even self-operate the (clapped-out-looking) OB van. Yet they manage to produce a respectable 6-hour morning newscast and a couple in the evening too.

If they can manage all this, London Live should be able to do proper news for a couple of hours a day.

Massive respect to KRON, they've demonstrated what multi-skilled means.

Security on reception is probably more broadcast ready than Baffoe. I noticed she was on in the week as well (last week or the week before), someone there obviously thinks this is her forte!

Whoever's in charge appears to have their 'duff favourite', Vikki Cook appeared to love Louise Scodie, despite NOTS being better when she was off and possibly Jim Grice likes Baffoe enough to let her present, despite mixing up her words and poor pronunciation, yet she's a decent reporter when they let her out of the building.

Frustratingly, Stefan Levy was reporting today, while Baffoe was again in the studio.

Also thanks for the American video Mark, I normally moan when an American comparison is made, but this one proves what is possible on a shoestring budget.

It's hard to believe how a year later, they can't play a VT package with an awkward black screen back to the studio. I'm guessing there's no Gallery PA, but I'm sure there's a system that can back time. (Basic uni stuff!)

Not sure if its a case of favourites... I think they make do with what they have. He clearly has no idea what he's doing and he's clothing at straws and filling holes. Not to worry though as he'll likely be out of a job soon and from what I hear there is not a lot of confidence in him from the team there. The channel just gets worse and worse. The whole channel feels like a dumping ground. At least in the beginning it had SOME kind of identity. It feels more and more like My Channel or Propeller on Sky than a bona fide TV channel.

Breaking Story perfect for London Live. Lets see if they cover it.
Warehouse fire in South London. Pic tweeted by ES. These are the perfect situation to have tower cam in a strategic place to catch these breaking stories and get them on air whilst crews and info is being assembled. Im thinking the Shard. A small fee is paid or there could be a name check each time the cam is shown on air. "You are looking at these live pictures from our camera high atop the Shard"

You've never been inside, or up The Shard ? You might manage to fix something to the struts at the very top,
but difficult to site a pan and tilt device up there that would give enough useful flexibility. Oh, and the Shard's owners would probably charge the GNP of a small country to mount anything up there !

Actually I have and The Shard was a suggestion and I dont doubt they would try to extort money. But the cam wouldnt need to mounted at the very top even though there are loads of places to mount a small hd ptz. But most of the cams these stations use now are so small, mounting it i wouldnt think would be the end of the world. Ive seen some applications where they are mounted behind one of the windows floors below the roof deck, so they dont even have building owners permission only the person letting the floor. A few of the broadcast cams mounted at the Sears Tower are done this way.
