The memes are obviously a mistake, the show should not try to bring us "the best" of social media; if you're interested in that you'd go to Facebook or Twitter. They need to focus on news more and not try too hard, which I think they seem to be doing.

With regard to the earthquake, I wonder how much new news Sky was reporting. There is a real issue with rolling news that it actually never delivers anything more than hearsay and gossip. So focusing on other matters whilst still keeping viewers informed of what's going on is no necessary a bad thing, I just think that the show doesn't always get it right at the moment.

You can imagine that the VD show would have continued with yet another misery discussion even during a 9/11 style breaking news event.

One presumes that's a cumulative figure, and therefore quite misleading; there will be at least some overlap in viewers from day to day.

That sounds like the reach added up Mon-Thu, which is the total number of people who watched the show at least once, for 5 minutes (or 15 minutes - not clear which), on at least one day between Mon and Thu. It's not a figure usually used for network TV programmes, but is used for lower rating digital TV channels (and I think a form of it is used in Radio too).

To know whether that figure is good or bad you really need to know what the reach has been on previous weeks (and what it was before the show started I guess?)

The figures you usually hear discussed for network TV programmes are the volume and share. The volume is the number of people (averaged over the programme duration) who watched the whole show (*), with the share scaling this to a percentage of the total number of people watching TV. You may also hear about a 'peak audience' which is the highest audience averaged across a shorter period (5 or 15 minutes) within a show.

(*) This doesn't mean that everyone who counts towards volume watched the entire show, but it does mean that if one person watched the first 15 minutes, and someone else watched the second 15 minutes of a 30 minute show, then they would count as one person watching for the full 30 minutes in volume/share terms. In reach terms, they would count as two separate viewers...

6 people watching a 30 minute show for a different 5 minutes each would count as 6 people in 5 minute reach terms, but only one person in volume/share terms...

Well interestingly i've had a reply and the delay was due to the election-the bad news is it looks like the standard reply if you do complain

“We have launched Victoria Derbyshire as a new kind of news programme designed to break exclusive stories, discuss topical issues and look in-depth at developing news in an intelligent and accessible way. The programme is at the heart of the BBC News Channel’s schedule and has a clear brief to cover breaking news – which it is doing on a daily basis, as well as opening up news coverage to a wider audience on BBC Two. Victoria Derbyshire is also helping to blaze a trail for BBC News in a world which is moving increasingly online – with its stories shared in advance online, on mobile and social media.”

Well after Tuesday's debacle with the second Nepal Earthquake, it's certainly a different kind of news progamme but for all the wrong reasons.

Yes, because nobody visited the BBC News website before Victoria Derbyshire came along.

What with all the people who swear never to use the BBC website ever again every time they change the design it's a wonder anybody visits it!

They (the big wigs) really do think we are dunces don't they?-like I've said previously i cannot see it going past Christmas if the complaints continue-it is an absolute train wreck at times (especially when breaking news actually happens and they continue as normal)

Ever since they launched the shorter credits for the end of the program, Victoria seems to keep talking straight until the music has finished which gives the credits about 2 seconds to animate on and off twice before the end board appears. The old credits were able to have some time on screen before the end board which was much more suited for a long program like Victoria Derbyshire.

Don't see the hate for this at all.

It's something different for the BBC. Victoria is perfectly likeable.

Rolling news isn't needed in the same volume anymore. BBC News, ITV News and Sky News all have good apps which are readily available. A lot of people would just check the BBC News app if they wanted headlines, instead of watching the BBC News channel.
