I think the lack of BBC Breakfast will push a lot of viewers over to GMB on the Friday.

Possibly. But in recent years when there has been industrial action at the BBC and Breakfast is replaced by what is effectively a slimmed down BBC News channel bulletins and daytime repeats, its ratings have still held up very well to anything offered by itv (the last strike in February 2013: Breakfast was reduced to 890,000 viewers to Daybreak's 885,000. Daybreak narrowly beat Breakfast but only if you include +1). But this isn't a strike. Also, the BBC's election night coverage has traditionally triumphed over itv's coverage (in 2010, about 4m to itv, under a million), so the continuing Friday morning coverage on BBC One is likely to have the benefit of a strong lead-in.

Breakfast wins because it's consistent. ITV struggles because they launch a new format then undo it to appeal to the viewers they've lost, losing any new viewers they might potentially have found. And then a couple of years later they do it all again, losing the cosy GMTV audience for a few months again until they do it all again.

I enjoyed #SelfieEsteem. It highlighted some important issues, which Breakfast would never bring up.

Breakfast does plenty of health and well-being features, just without cheesy hashtags. As for the team, they always seem professional, yet get along. Indeed, when I've watched I've seen them do occasional sporting challenges and features in the past. They just don't turn their egos into the focus of the programme.

How would you know anyway? You claim to not watch it. Actually, I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to reply. It's clear you don't like news, and just watch morning telly for bright colours, shapes and cheesy smiling faces.

Those graphics are great, but I feel the website/hashtag bug isn't very well designed and I'm still hating the bulky ugly logo. I feel the next rebrand for the show would rename the show 'GMB' in a further sway towards GMTV.

One thing I think the show would benefit is to make the graphics relevant to your region. The only reason the Weather bug didn't really work is because it took a very long time to come to a city close to you and I'm not particularly interested in the weather in Carlisle.

If they sourced the graphics from the regions so they only show info from the regions the show would really benefit from this and I'm sure the technology is out there for them to do this.

I much prefer it when Kate is not involved. I just find her irritating. She has to laugh at everything and make silly comments. I just want to be informed in the morning. I'll be glad when Charlotte returns and we get back to the proper presenting line up.

I couldn't agree with you more, and why we prefer Breakfast or Sunrise in our house right now.
Find Kate so annoying. Constantly laughing at or with Susanna and co. doesn't count as chemistry IMO.
Charlotte and baby were on the show one day last week. I gather she's back presenting some time after the election. Can't wait!

Thing is though, the show has changed unrecognisably since Charlotte left and personally I find it how to imagine how she'll fit in with the current format. One thing's for sure, less Kate and more Charlotte certainly won't return the programme to its original state.

I personally hope they keep Kate for plenty of the time - for me, she's pretty much the only thing that makes the show watchable. The other presenters may have suited GMB's first incarnation but I'm not sure they're right for the programme it's become.

The show was so much better when it launched, the buzzfeed article was spot on. They'd have a 5 minute discussion on Hollywood stars then right into a rushed interview with a politician. It didn't sit right and was far too fast flowing. The format they have now works well with itv IMO. Having 15/20 minutes worth of news headlines then weather isn't what their core audience want to watch. Presumably the "hassled mum" wants a brief look at the national news headlines, local news and weather within 10 minutes. their main problem with the format is consistency, some days the news bulletins will be full of reports and lives. other days the news bulletins will be very thin with little reports from correspondents. I prefer GMB because they don't take themselves too seriously. I don't care how big or small the studio is. As long as I get a brief look at national news, regional weather etc. the chemistry between Ben, Susanna and Kate is great and it's easy to watch. They're all relatable to the viewer and I'll often laugh at the jokes with the team. Susanna has shown how well she can get on with Kate and from what I've seen viewers are commenting on how much they enjoy Ben and Susanna on the show. It's not all about presenters, it's the content. There are some big flaws with content on both breakfast and GMB. Generally, breakfast is pretty slick, you know what your going to get. A BBC news style show with features. With ITV it's most likely to be news, human interest, showbiz, weather. They're never going to produce a news heavy ITV breakfast show without changing it. of they're always reverting back to a GMTV style format, build on it a little and stick with something for more than 18 months. Don't change the set, graphics, presenters etc as it does them no favours. Maybe see where that gets them.

Like other have been saying, the launch was much, much better than now.

If you look in this video:

Some of the features are a lot better (excluding the short-lived wheel of cash)
Like just one presenter introducing the next item or Sean and Charlotte, having more predominate roles other than Newsreader and Sports Presenter (especially, as someone said about a week ago, that Sean was in the building all morning to be on for a 2 minute sports bulletin. And definitely, the graphics were better (i.e. 'BREAKING NEWS' and 'LIVE' ones)

Probably the most sensible post in this thread in the last year.

It would pretty difficult to get constant regional weather updates. It would be pretty awful here in the Westcountry as well, whenever the local news comes on there's either a blurry logo and clock with fuzzy black dots around the edges, or no clock at all like in previous days. It would probably be more effort than it's worth, especially as Laura does the weather every 15 minutes.

Think it would need to be done by ITV Playout to keep the main show HD, and to be resilient. You wouldn't want to feed the main network contribution through each regional centre (many of which are SD) and then back to ITV Playout just to add graphics.

On a different note, it'll be interesting to see how GMB cover the Royal Baby if it's born tomorrow morning. Will Susanna, Ben, Kate or Ranvir be live from the Lindo Wing? Will the entire show come from the Lindo Wing? GMB covered the Paris attacks extremely well, so it'll be interesting to see how they cover another huge breaking news story.
