I guess the main saving is in not having to staff Studio A for the hour.

And if it is a simulcast you have an hour less of production effort duplicated across the channels. And if it inherits content from the earlier version there is a saving there as well?

Is this part of a wider move towards more stranded output on BBC News? First we get the new business programme and Derbyshire, now we have news of Outside Source.

So maybe Business Edition will be moved to 9.30 and will also be part of the simulcast. I don't think OS will take a full hour.

According to long range schedules on the BBC website - Outside Source will have 3 editions on BBC World News - its current + 2100 & 2130. This means an end to Business Edition. Presumably both in the 2100 hour will be on BBC News.

Official press release outlining the changes and times says OS will be an hour long, it doesn't mention Business Edition.

Quote:
From Friday to Sunday, the 9pm slot on the BBC News Channel will host the latest international news and in-depth global analysis with World News Today.

The new, hour-long programme shown in the UK and around the world will feature Ros in the heart of the BBC’s multimedia newsroom.

Assuming it's simulcast, World News Today will also be the only 'branded' live news programme on BBC World News at weekends as well (excluding Sunday night Newsday which is aimed at Monday morning in Asia)

(If the BBC1 news ever airs in the 9pm hour at the weekend - has happened occasionally - wonder if the News Channel will not air it, or if they will have to drop World News Today?)

Ros Atkins already hosts OS on the World Service at 1100 GMT and OS on World News at 1800 GMT (and an extra edition at 1700 GMT currently because of the ridiculous standard/daylight savings situation). So I wonder if having an edition at 2100 UKT will mean cancelling or moving the radio edition or having someone else take over.

But given that Outside Source is taking up its slot I imagine that means that Business Edition will no longer be on. I'm assuming this is why Business Live is launching, to account for the loss of half an hours business news in the evening.

Business Live will start earlier (March 30.) on BBC World so I wonder if that's also the case with this new hour of OS? Do we have info on this?

Wonder how they'll handle World News America when the clocks go forward in Europe but not in America.

Normally for a few weeks they put Business Edition on at 10pm UKT and WNA is on at 9pm UKT.
