If there did that it would slove nearly all the trouble with the closure of BBC3, which means its not going to happen. its mainly repeats The question about Family Guy etc still stand.
Back on the topic, what will the BBC do with the extra few mins? talk more to local candidates?

I hope that whatever happens in the rest of UK regarding Newsnight, it will be broadcast in Scotland at the same time. Don't think BBC Scotland need to extend the news on BBC One beyond the fifteen minutes running up to the general election. Not that I'm advocating it or wanting it, but there could be more of a justification for an extension for them in the lead up to the Holyrood elections.

More likely the one show will get dumped at 1am again in the two weeks leading up to it.

I totally agree in that it won't happen, it just makes too much sense . The other reason I feel could be that BBC2 will want to keep Newsnight is due to it's rivalry with Channel 4 News. Though surely it doesn't matter what channel Newsnight is on as long as it still exists to offer an more in-depth BBC styled look at the day's stories (the reason it shouldn't be reduced to a half hour programme).

I personally doubt that they will move Newsnight to BBC News. Even though we are living post-digital switchover, it would still be seen as quite a big statement on the show's quality if it were to go from BBC Two to BBC News. Plus, I imagine that its timing would be inconsistent especially if there is a rolling news story that leads to delay, interruption or outright cancellation of that night's programme.
Yes there are scheduling issues that need to be sorted out, and the general quality of Newsnight overall in the face of competition from ITV, but I think the only reason the BBC would move the show to another channel is if they wanted to eventually axe it, which, considering they only recently introduced a new lead presenter, doesn't seem like the plan. They could perhaps only show it on certain nights of the week or move to a seasonal format, in order to accomodate the BBC Three programming (if it closes)?

Moving Newsnight to BBC News is ludicrous. It's not mainstream rolling news, for a relatively peak slot.

These changes start on Monday by the way. Look North have been running a trailer advertising the longer late bulletin.
As I expected reducing the lunchtime bulletin would mess up the afternoon schedule, as they'd have 10 mins extra to play with, so instead they've extended the national news to compensate with the shorter regional bulletin now scheduled for 13:38
