Well YourTv has a big shoes to fill. ChannelM left a big legacy for local tv in the GMA. They will be compared with that channel. With the launches we've seen so far, Im not holding my breath.

I agree as Channel M was a great channel, if we had not had the recession with GMG selling the MEN off then I think it could still be around, although on a much smaller budget, but they already had a good library of programmes - one of my favourite being I Love Manchester - plus catered for both sides of the football spectrum and also for the other clubs as well, and programmes on the other sports in the area, whilst the music was diverse. Even Andy Crane with his breakfast programme (and later evening programme) were actually of a high standard for micro-local programming.

Andy Crane never did Channel M Breakfast. He used to present the Channel M News at 5pm & 9pm alongside Jess Dunsdon (now with Channel Television). The Channel M News at 5pm got cancelled when they moved the Channel M Breakfast format to drivetime and renamed it Channel M Today, airing between 4pm & 7pm.

Channel M Today appeared when they when thru severe cutbacks and let tons of staff go. It must be said Channel M was ahead of its time. I wonder what it would have looked like today if they were able to stabilize their finances and join the new localtv scheme? There were some some things I certainly would have a fixed, but without the deep pockets of London Live, they did a brilliant job of covering the GMA. I was impressed and watch frequently. Especially the music and news programmes. The on-air staff was good. They did have an agreement of some sort with Chum International at the time. Chum was the owners of Citytv Toronto.

Notts TV has recently launched a full video on demand service and has steadily been building up its library over the past week:

Arrgh, if only more of the local channels were like Notts. The Channel 8 Debate is simple, but its obvious its produced by people who know what TV should look like.

The newsreader who launched Sheffield Live TV! left a few weeks back. Charlotte Reid has joined the Lincs FM radio group instead.

I contacted Kaleidoscope TV (who took over the Birmingham license) about what programmes will be on their channel. They said "in due course our programmes will be announced by our PR people". They still haven't got back to me on when they'll announce the programmes. When they do I'll post here.

By the way, Kaleidoscope TV will launch some time on February, and will produce 40 hours of local programming a week. Still no word on when programmes will be announced.

They wrote back, saying that the "programmes will be announced in due course" which is the same as when they first emailed me. So I don't know when they'll announce their programmes.
