Few quick notes on Made in Leeds last night and this morning:

Beth Krysta Wilson was fronting 'On the Aire' last night. She's probably the best of their on-screen talents at the moment - most of her reports have been nicely put together, but she needs a little more polish as an anchor. In general, Made need to think about coaching for their on-air people - some of the reporters have the basics down, but sound monotone - it's hard work watching and listening. As before, the story count last night seemed low for a half-hour slot, so reports continue to run long. Oh, and once again, we were told at the end of the 6pm showing that the weather was coming up - it wasn't, it was shoved into the 6.15 ad break instead. Careless.

'The Book-it List' last night was all on location at Leeds Corn Exchange. Production was generally pretty slick - one of the best assembled programmes they've screened from a technical standpoint - but the bulk of the programme centred around three retailers, and had an uncomfortable air of advertorial about it. Quite a nice bit about the history and architecture of the building tacked on in the last two minutes, but this could have been the focus of the programme. An opportunity missed.

'Wake Up Leeds' - the breakfast slot on the EPG - seems to be repeats of.. guess what? 'The Book-it List'... again! But in a weird split screen arrangement, similar to the old BBC Parliament on Freeview. So, as well as the show in the bottom left corner, we have sections for the time/date, scrolling news and scrolling what's ons. Not the tidiest layout, but a fair enough idea. However, attention to detail is lacking. Three out of the four news stories on the scroller were from last week. And no sign of a weather forecast. We had to wait until the 9.30am junction for that.

Bottom line - If I weren't enough of a TV pres anorak to be posting on here, I'd probably have lost patience with them by now. It's not a channel you could watch for pleasure.

Does anyone have a status update on the Manchester local TV licence? I've never yet got a reply from them. However, I did notice an up-tick in the re-posting of news articles from BBC North West and the M.E.N. on Your TV's Facebook page lately so somebody is doing *something*.

A report from 8th December suggests Your TV Manchester (and Preston) will launch in February. Though funding and studios not yet confirmed.

Well YourTv has a big shoes to fill. ChannelM left a big legacy for local tv in the GMA. They will be compared with that channel. With the launches we've seen so far, Im not holding my breath.

When I saw Wake up Leeds a couple of weeks ago the graphics were well into the overscan area on my (admittedly rubbish) set. But at least they are having a go at a 24 hour service unlike say STV Glasgow.

I wondered why they had Miss World reps on Headline London earlier in the week.

From hipster nonsense to sexist outdated beauty pageants, they still can't get it right.

How can Miss World be on London Live anyway? Miss World isn't about London. A good example of when London Live decided to broadcast something completely out of its remit. I know they're allowed to broadcast some none-local content, but Miss World is unnaceptable.

This year's Miss World was held at ExCeL London.

But it didn't have anything to do with London itself.

It was in London, the rights were probably dirt cheap (presumably the weren't the host broadcaster) and although it's hardly "local" content it presumably counts so ticks off a couple of hours for the week.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a deal with cross promotion with the Standard which is what London Live have been trying to sell ads/sponsorship on.

I agree as Channel M was a great channel, if we had not had the recession with GMG selling the MEN off then I think it could still be around, although on a much smaller budget, but they already had a good library of programmes - one of my favourite being I Love Manchester - plus catered for both sides of the football spectrum and also for the other clubs as well, and programmes on the other sports in the area, whilst the music was diverse. Even Andy Crane with his breakfast programme (and later evening programme) were actually of a high standard for micro-local programming.
