Its the Mock Forum Jargon Buster where you can ask a question about your mock that you don't quite understand, or havnt seen explained in the definitions part of TVForum.

I'll start the ball rolling:

I'm making some mocks atm and I just thought "Safe Area's" then thought "What are safe areas?".

So what are safe areas exactly? can somone explain what these are in "Just-Add-Water" manner ? did i spell manner right? and please use pictures Very Happy

Thanks folks

TV's are different shapes and have different screen areas. Therefore somethings on the extreme top, bottom, left & right won't show up on all tv's therefore you basically need a margin around the edge of your mock.

why? e4 broadcasts in 4:3

when E4 broadcast in widescreen, the on screen bug isn't 4:3 safe - its right in the far left hand corner of the screen

When watching E4 on my television downstairs, whenever they go to the breakbumper it flicks into widescreen (I think) and the white word over the purple background looses its smooth letters and it becomes extremely aliased/jagged. It's the same with promos. Unusually, this is the only channel, which it occurs on as far as I know.

BTW - I have no idea about safe areas so I don't know whether the answer/cause of my problem is obvious. Rolling Eyes

But when E4 broadcast normally, I find the dog in the corner is half on half off the screen. also, we have a 21" tv and the E4 picture always seems to be stretched

It's always been like this for me also. But the picture doesn't seem stretched to me, it's just the DOG. Like I said earlier, it's only E4, which does this. Confused
